Signal Monitoring System suits DVB-T and DVB-H networks.

Press Release Summary:

Able to measure modulation error ratio (MER) up to 38 dB, R&S DVMS1 simultaneously monitors MPEG transport stream and transmitted RF signal. Signal from transmitter's monitoring output is fed directly to device and main RF characteristics such as level, frequency, and MER can also be measured. Other functions include PCR jitter analysis and display of thumbnails and EPG. Unit offers 2 signal inputs and allows user configuration of all monitoring functions.

New Monitoring System from Rohde & Schwarz Ensures High Reliability of DVB-T/H Networks at Low Investment Cost

Munich - Rohde & Schwarz introduces the R&S DVMS1, a compact monitoring system for DVB-T and DVB-H networks. The R&S DVMS1 simultaneously monitors the MPEG transport stream and the transmitted RF signal. This makes it ideal for use at transmitter sites. The modulation error ratio (MER) is typically measured up to 38 dB, which, for this application, clearly sets the R&S DVMS1 apart from other instruments: Due to the system's high MER measurement range, the network operator is able to detect deterioration even in high-quality signals and thus respond faster to potential transmitter faults. A universal solution is now available at an excellent price/performance ratio.

In order to instantly respond to signal failures or faults, network operators must be able to quickly localize the problem. That is where the R&S DVMS1 with its numerous functions comes in. The signal from the transmitter's monitoring output is fed directly to the R&S DVMS1. The signal's main RF characteristics such as level, frequency and MER can be measured. An option lets users simultaneously monitor the transport stream in the DVB-T signal and the transport stream fed to the transmitter. The recorded errors and measurement results are either displayed on-site or reported to the monitoring station using SNMP traps.

The graphical representation of the measurement results provides the user with a quick overview. Numerous other analysis and viewing functions are integrated in the R&S DVMS1, including PCR jitter analysis and display of thumbnails and EPG. In-depth analyses can be performed to more accurately determine errors and transmitted data can be clearly displayed.

Operation of the R&S DVMS1 is intuitive, making the system very easy to use. All monitoring functions can be configured as needed by the user. Monitoring can be optimally adapted to local requirements. For remote access and use in central network management systems, the R&S DVMS1 can easily be integrated into data networks. Simultaneous remote web access from several locations is possible.

The R&S DVMS1, with two signal inputs, has a height of only 1 HU and a width of 19" making it one of the most compact instruments on the market. Even when the transmitter station has limited space, it is easy to install and it also fits on all research laboratory benches.

For use in multiplex centers, the R&S DVMS1 only needs to be equipped with the transport stream monitoring option. The result is an economical solution that can be extended at any time.

The R&S DVMS1 monitoring system is now available from Rohde & Schwarz.
