Agilent Technologies Extends Frequency Range of High-Performance Signal Generators
New Configuration Structure Reduces Acquisition Cost
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 8, 2004 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced major enhancements to its PSG microwave signal generators that extend the frequency range to 67 GHz for analog models and to 44 GHz for vector models. The frequency extensions are designed for engineers and system integrators who are developing terrestrial and satellite communications, radar, and avionic systems, and who evaluate RF and microwave components. With the new models, these engineers can for the first time take advantage of the performance and flexibility of Agilent's PSG signal generators at millimeter-wave frequencies. A new configuration structure offers the industry-leading performance of Agilent PSG signal generators while reducing acquisition cost.
The Agilent PSG analog signal generators now include the E8257D models with frequency ranges of 50 GHz and 67 GHz, complementing the current 20 GHz and 40 GHz versions. Agilent's 20 and 40 GHz PSG analog models have the highest output power of any commercially available signal generator. Now that performance is extended to 67 GHz, where output power is typically greater than +12 dBm.
The PSG vector signal generators now include the E8267D models with frequency ranges of 32 GHz and 44 GHz. Agilent's PSG instruments with the wide modulation bandwidth option (Option 015) are the industry's only vector signal generators that can directly modulate I/Q signals with bandwidths up to 1 GHz and provide this capability to 44 GHz. This feature is highly desirable for wideband communications and many radar applications where greater RF bandwidth translates into increased resolution.
PSG Performance for Less
Agilent's implementation of a new option configuration structure for its PSG analog and vector signal generators makes it possible for buyers to specify the modulation capabilities required for their specific application. In the past, some modulation types were included in the base models. This new configuration structure can significantly reduce acquisition cost, and modulation capabilities can be added later when needed. All vector models have as standard features the I/Q modulator, a variable step attenuator and high output power.
The new Agilent PSG analog and vector signal generators as well as the 20 GHz and 40 GHz models offer easy-to-use interfaces for straightforward configuration on the front panel and remote operation over GPIB or LAN. In addition, programming modes provide a high level of backward compatibility with Agilent's older signal generators, as well as linkages to Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) electronic design automation and waveform generation tools. The Agilent PSG can operate at frequencies above 70 GHz and up to 110 GHz using Agilent's millimeter-wave source modules.
