Explosion-Proof Signal and Escape Sign Luminaires Now Available in LED

COOPER Crouse-Hinds has extended its well-proven dKLK 23 and dKLK 23 CG-S range of Ex signal and escape sign luminaires for compact fluorescent lamps, with the launch of the company's new LED version. This LED option is certified for use in Zones 1 and 21 in accordance with both ATEX and IECEx standards.

The new LED signal and escape sign luminaires offer a range of benefits for customers, including energy savings over the life of the luminaire, long service life, as well as cost savings due to longer service intervals. The lamps are also environmentally friendly, as they contain no mercury.

The LED luminaires are suitable for a wide range of hazardous gas (Ex Zone 1, II 2 G) and ha-zardous dust (Ex Zone 21, II 2 D) environments, including intermittent operation as flashing lights.

Target industry sectors for the new LED luminaires include oil, gas and petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, grain, bakeries, oil refineries, waste water treatment plants, coal plants, marine and offshore platforms.

Gordon Low, OEM Sales Engineer At COOPER Crouse-Hinds UK Ltd comments: "The dKLK 23 LED signal and escape sign luminaires are used as mains luminaires for signaling purposes. Available with transparent or coloured [red, green or blue] covers, the luminaires are ideal for use in petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and offshore, where explosive gas or dust is present."

"Customers can order the units with either glanded or plugged connections. The plug version uses our own eXLink connectors, which enables the connection and disconnection of the luminiare in hazardous environments, without the use of tools and without the engineer having to isolate the apparatus from the mains or disconnect the terminals," Low continues.

The dKLK 23 LED luminaires are certified for temperature class T6. When used with a white Phillips Master LED 7W lamp with integrated driver, the unit has a luminous flux rating of 230lm, which is equivalent to a 25W incandescent lamp. The units offer instant start-up and can be used in flashing mode. Service life is 45,000 hours and rated voltage is 230V, 50/60Hz. The lamps can be installed as ceiling or wall-mounted units and are protected to IP66.

As a leading manufacturer of light fittings for use in hazardous gas and dust areas, COOPER Crouse-Hinds understands the product development phase better than most suppliers. The company has already invested millions of pounds in the construction of its own LED research and development centre in the USA. Built two years ago, this R&D centre combines the LED efforts of all the various COOPER lighting divisions into one common LED platform, using this know-how to build reliable LED lighting systems and to constantly remain on top of this emerging technology.
