Sigma-Aldrich Launches ChiroSolv(TM) Kits

ST. LOUIS, April 19 -- Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL), a leading $1.8 billion Life Science and High Technology company, is pleased to announce it has concluded an agreement with ChiroSolve Inc., a San Jose, CA based company, to market and exclusively distribute ChiroSolv Kits. Each 96-well formatted ChiroSolv Kit enables convenient, rapid screening of chiral resolving agents and solvents for classical resolution of enantiomers. Using these kits, optimum resolution that typically requires over two months can be achieved within one day.

"Sigma-Aldrich is pleased to work with ChiroSolve Inc. to provide the chemical synthesis community a leading-edge classical resolution tool," said Charles Davis, Technology Transfer Manager, Chemistry, Sigma-Aldrich.

Dr. Niteen Vaidya, CTO of ChiroSolve Inc., added: "We are very pleased with the success customers have achieved so far and with the high level of repeat customers. Customers consider ChiroSolv kits as a key tool for their efforts in racemic switch projects."

Each of these ready-to-use disposable kits contains a combination of eight resolving agents and twelve solvents amenable to screening a wide variety of racemates, including acids, bases, alcohols, amino acids, aldehydes, and ketones.

Advantages of ChiroSolv Resolving Kits include: 6 types (3 acid, 3 base) of ready-to-use disposable kits providing 576 combinations of solvents and resolving agents; minimal amounts of racemate needed (less than 3mmol per kit); amounts of resolving agents are precisely calibrated to give accurate results and solvent percentages chosen to give optimum crystallization; piercable rubber septums enable easy racemate dispensing; conveniently designed for easy robotic manipulations to eliminate human errors; and a long shelf life of at least two years at room temperature.
