Siemens to Provide Condensate Polishing System for Power Project in India

Warrendale, Pennsylvania, USA - June 10, 2011 - The Indian construction company Larsen & Toubro Limited has awarded Siemens Water Technologies with a contract to provide a condensate polisher package with external regeneration facility. The equipment will be used to treat condensate for two 660-megawatt super-critical boilers for a power project in Madhya Pradesh, India. The contract involves design, engineering, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning of the condensate polisher system, which is currently scheduled for start-up in March 2012.

Larsen & Toubro Ltd. is a conglomerate, which operates worldwide in the areas of technology, engineering services, production and construction. For its new power plant in Madhya Pradesh, India, Siemens will provide six high-pressure spherical condensate polishers, which are designed to remove impurities such as metal oxides, trace ionic impurities and silica. Condensate is formed when the steam from the boiler cools. It can be collected and reused as boiler feed. The new condensate polishing system is designed to treat 3,900 m3/hr of return condensate, which helps to improve and maintain the boiler feed water chemistry. The system will also increase the likelihood that the power plant will stay online during small to moderate condenser leaks.

To remove impurities from the condensate, exchange resins are being used. The exhausted resins will be transferred and regenerated in a Fullsep external regeneration system that allows separation of the resins with minimum cross-contamination, thus assisting the customer in maintaining consistent high-quality water.

Siemens in India and Singapore will work together to execute the project, including design and project management.
