Siemens Sells H-Class Gas Turbine Technology for the First Time in Poland

Siemens has been awarded an order in Central Europe for the first time outside of Germany for turn-key erection of a combined cycle power plant to be equipped with the innovative Siemens H-Class gas turbine. Customer for the 596 Megawatt (MWe) plant in P³ock is PKN Orlen, Eastern Europe's largest mineral oil company. The plant located around 100 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Warsaw is designed to be very flexible and can feed electricity into the national power grid, and also supply the facility for complex refine and petrochemical production in P³ock with electricity and process steam. Commissioning of the plant is scheduled for the end of 2017.
Since 2003, the Polish economy has grown significantly faster than average growth in other EU countries. Power demand in the country has increased from 140,590 GWh to 157,980 GWh, not least due to a rise in industrial production. New power plants are needed to meet these growing demands, at the same time, old, inefficient plants must be replaced.
Siemens will build the single-shaft plant in P³ock turnkey, and will supply the main components; an SGT5-8000H gas turbine, the heat recovery steam generator, an SST5-5000 steam turbine with an SCon-2000PF condenser, an SGen5-3000W generator, the electrical systems and the SPPA-T3000 IC system. Siemens will also be responsible for plant maintenance and service for a period of around 12 years.
"This order for the P³ock combined cycle plant is the first order for our proven HClass power plant technology in Central Europe outside of Germany. The fleet of Siemens H-class world-record gas turbines achieved a cumulative 100,000 equivalent operating hours at the end of September 2014. With this order, 44 of the H-class gas turbines have been sold worldwide to date. Thirteen of these machines are currently in successful commercial operation with a high degree of starting reliability and availability.
