Siemens Reaches 2GW Wind Power Generation Capacity in the UK

London - Siemens reached a UK milestone of two gigawatt (2GW) generation capacity last month with the installation of turbine E1 at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm off the Essex coast. This milestone has been achieved less than 18 months after Siemens completed installation of its first gigawatt of wind turbine capacity, making the company's installations the largest offshore power base in Europe.

Siemens recently announced the installation of its 1000th UK turbine, a milestone which was also reached at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm. The Gunfleet Sands wind farm is owned by Dong Energy, the world's leading operator of offshore wind farms.

Siemens provides 40% of the UK's wind turbine generating capacity and is the market leader in offshore wind turbines in the UK, including the recent award to the SMartwind consortium of the 4GW contract for the "Hornsea" zone of the Round 3 wind farm programme.
