• Plant will have a capacity of 550 MW enough to power 300,000 homes
Siemens has received an order for two SGT6-5000F gas turbines and two SGEN6- 1000 generators to be installed in Mexico. The equipment will be used in two 1x1 configurations for the Tula 1 and 2 combined cycle power blocks. Together, the two combined cycle blocks will have an installed capacity of 550 megawatts (MW) enough to power 300,000 homes. The order has been placed by Avanzia, the EPC contractor that will build the two combined cycle power plants for the state owned utility Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) in Mexico. The commercial operation date is scheduled for summer 2017.
The two new plants are located in Tula, in the municipalities of Hidalgo in central Mexico. The SGT6-5000F gas turbines will be operated with natural gas. With more than 10,200,000 hours of fleet operation this gas turbine achieves peak values for reliability of higher than 99 - the highest performance values in its class.
Siemens has a strong presence in the Mexican power market which is developing at a fast pace. ”Working with CFE and private IPPs Siemens will maintain a strong presence in the Mexican market. Our SGT6-5000F is a proven and an environmentally friendly gas turbine technology”, said John M. Wilson, Vice President Large Gas Turbine Sales Americas at Siemens Power and Gas division.
The turbines and generators will be manufactured in the Siemens factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is the main production facility for Siemens 60 Hz power generation.
