Sidera Networks Deploys Overture ISG 6000

Leading service provider upgrades with Carrier Ethernet to reduce operational costs and deliver reliable service

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - Overture Networks, the industry's trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions provider, today announced that Sidera Networks, a premier provider of high-capacity communications services, is using Overture Networks' award-winning ISG 6000 Carrier Ethernet aggregation platform to expand its Ethernet services footprint. The deployment of the ISG 6000 platform is helping Sidera Networks cost-effectively support its customers and maintain its commitment to delivering cost-effective, comprehensive solutions at the highest level of quality.

Sidera Networks, formerly RCN Metro Optical Networks, is a facilities-based provider offering a full suite of communications services throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S., and in Chicago and Toronto, with over 1500 on-net locations, 355,000 fiber miles and 24 co-location facilities in the nation's busiest communications corridor.

"As Sidera Networks, we were searching for a simple, cost-effective and efficient way to aggregate our Ethernet over TDM traffic," said Patrick O'Hare, vice president of engineering and operations for Sidera Networks. "After detailed review, we concluded that Overture's ISG 6000 would not only allow us to aggregate this traffic, but also consolidate network elements," concluded O'Hare.

Overture Networks' ISG 6000 helps service providers such as Sidera modernize their networks and continue to deliver existing IP and Ethernet services. By using the ISG 6000 instead of TDM interfaces, such as channelized DS3 or OC3/STM1 on routers, service providers can save up to 70 percent on CapEx while reducing their physical and power footprint. In addition, because the ISG 6000 supports a number industry standard encapsulation protocols such as PPP, MLPPP, Frame Relay and HDLC, service providers who install the ISG 6000 to aggregate their T1/E1 and DS3 based IP and Ethernet services can do so without making changes to their customer's CPE.

"Sidera has emerged as one of the premier service providers in a large geographic region, and they are committed to delivering a rich set of services to its customers," said Jeff Reedy, CEO of Overture Networks. "Our ISG 6000 enables Sidera to update their network at the lowest possible capital expense with no disruption to their customer located devices -- all while reducing their operation costs substantially. We are pleased to be a trusted partner in their network."
