SICK Expands Machine Vision Offering with Six New Smart Cameras

New versions offer more flexibility for customers

Minneapolis, Minn. June 20, 2007 - SICK, one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems and automatic identification products for factory and logistics automation, today announced the launch of new versions of its innovative IVC-2D and IVC-3D Smart Cameras - the IVC-2D Reader, IVC-2D R, IVC-3D 30, IVC-3D 300, and IVC-3D Food & Beverage. The expanded product families are now able to handle more industry-specific applications. New options include bar code reading and optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities on the 2D cameras, and an expanded range of 3D solutions.

IVC-2D Reader
The IVC-2D Reader adds flexibility to an already powerful tool - now with the ability to read bar codes, 2D data matrix codes and do OCR and optical character verification (OCV). The system is available in both high- and standard-resolution versions. With the increasing regulations from the FDA for tracability on production of food and beverages, the ability to inspect a product for irregularities and read bar codes and date codes in one inspection point makes the IVC an ideal choice. The inclusion of Ethernet/IP and robot coordinate transformation also adds to the applications for the IVC-2D Reader.

IVC-2D R
Along with adding new functionality, SICK has introduced a lower cost 2D camera system for applications that do not require high speed processing. This camera has all the functionality of the standard IVC-2D with a lower cost processor. The camera offers the same robust IP 65 housing but provides a lower solution cost for applications that do not require high speed.

IVC-3D-30
The IVC 3D-30 is a short-range 3D camera designed for very detailed inspection applications. The IVC3D-30 is capable of measurements down to 15 microns. The camera is still capable of 5000 profiles per second, making it advantageous for precision manufacturing lines. The field of view for this camera is 33 mm in height with a maximum width of 68 mm. This makes the camera suitable for small part inspections and manufacturing markets.

IVC-3D-300
A long-range version of the 3D Smart Camera, the IVC-3D-300 is specially designed for applications in the material handling and logistics markets. The longer stand-off distance and larger field of view make the IVC-3D ideal for measuring and inspecting objects found in the logistics market. Applications such as pallet inspection, dimensioning, counting, and verifying singulation are just a few examples. The field of view for this device is 1000 mm in height and up to 1.48 m in width, with a 1.2 mm height resolution.

IVC-3D Food & Beverage
With an increasing number of inspection and product tracking applications being performed in the food and beverage industry, SICK has introduced two new models of the IVC-3D designed especially for this market. Using plastic lensing instead of the standard glass, the IVC-3D-50 and the IVC-3D-200 make direct inspection of food products possible without using enclosures. These models continue to provide the same performance as the glass lens models while conforming to the food and beverage industry standard and requirement of no glass used during the inspection of food products.
