Shrink Wrap System provides precise print registration.

Press Release Summary:

B24-90 automatic sleeve wrapper has PLC controls, feed system to dispense film, and extruded aluminum seal head wrapping equipment. Feed system meters out print-patterned film from overhead roll at rate of only one pattern repeat per machine cycle. Seal head is available in sizes up to 74 in. Transfer motions and other mechanical activities are regulated by on-board computer. System can be built with infeed conveyors that are single, dual, or multi-lane.

Damark's Versatile and Cost-Effective B24-90 Wrapper Gives Precise Print Registration, High Performance

The Damark model B24-90 automatic sleeve wrapper gives precise print registration in a cost-effective shrink wrap system that's comparable in precision and performance to systems that normally cost up to twice the price of the B24-90. Key to the Damark sleeve-wrapper's performance is the precision with which its feed system dispenses the film, and the extruded aluminum seal head that's proprietary to Damark wrapping equipment. Featured at Damark's PackExpo International booth S-2927, the Damark B24-90 sleeve-wrapper is ideal for packagers who want a machine that is very simple to operate yet has the versatility to wrap different container sizes and combinations as needed.

Designed for packaging operation flexibility, the Damark B24-90 can be built with infeed conveyors that are single, dual or multi-lane. The conveyor aligns containers and transports them to the metal-block pusher, which slides forward and automatically collates containers in the desired row configuration for the multi-pack. The assembled multi-pack is then encased in film.

The B24-90 feed system meters out print-patterned film from an overhead roll at the rate of only one pattern repeat per machine cycle, with the remainder of film for the multi-pack sourced from the span of plain film supplied from underneath the machine. A pinch roller pulls the preprinted film off the roll to get a constant feed rate and prevent any excess film from entering the sealing area. In contrast, the bottom film takes as much as required from the reservoir, with a variance of up to one inch.

The heart of Damark's shrink wrappers is the sealing system, with Damark's proprietary seal head of extruded aluminum, a material chosen specifically for its heat-retention ability, and coated with Teflon to prevent sticking. The seal head is available in different sizes up to 74 inches. Finely-tuned heater controls keep temperatures within two to three degrees F, enabling the pneumatically operated sealing head to make a solid seal in .3 to .4 seconds.

An air-operated package clamp descends to help steady the loosely- shrink-wrapped multipack before it travels to the shrink tunnel. A dead plate at the shrink tunnel entrance stabilizes the packages as they move into the tunnel. The multipacks are transported through the shrink tunnel on a high-temperature polymer mesh belt or on rollers and emerge tightly wrapped.

The Damark S24-T shrink tunnel, almost 10 feet long, is designed for high production operations. With two individually adjustable heat zones, twin ½ hp turbo air blower motors disperse hot air evenly through the side and bottom heat chambers. Dual electronic solid-state time-proportional temperature controllers allow up to a 20 degree differential between the two zones so packagers have the flexibility to set up and fine-tune the tunnel for their specific applications.

For spot-on accuracy, individual Siemens PLC devices control all electrical functions of the sleeve wrapper, such as the pusher movement and how long the seal head stays down. Transfer motions and other mechanical activities are all regulated by an on-board computer whose software is customized for each installation.

Damark specializes in meeting the needs of companies whose shrink wrapping lines run challenging products at 30 or less per minute. Headquartered in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, Damark produces rugged and reliable equipment and a variety of unique shrink wrapping equipment such as upstacking systems
