Shrink Labeler offers enhanced control and capabilities.

Press Release Summary:

Built for 24/7 packaging operations, heavy-duty R-250 Evolution has welded stainless steel frame and complete stainless steel construction. Blade assembly lasts for months, and control is provided via Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC, touchscreen, and servos. Full sleeve shrink labels and tamper-evident sleeves can be applied at speeds of 50–250 containers/min. Upgradeable Sensor and verification package and zero-downtime, splice-on-the-fly accumulator option are also available.

Original Press Release:

Popular Shrink Labeler is Re-Introduced with Features that Enhance Control, Expand Capabilities

Who benefits?  food and beverage companies, and contract packers looking for a robust and versatile system for shrink sleeve labeling, tamper evident sleeving and multipacking.

PDC International Corporation has re-introduced its popular R-250 Evolution shrink labeler with a suite of new features that give it substantial added versatility for food, beverage and sanitary environments.

The R-250 Evolution is a robust system, built for continuous use.  New construction features include a welded stainless steel frame, and complete stainless steel construction.  As with the original design, the R-250 is a robust mechanical system, and for packaging operations that run 24/7, this is a significant advantage.

The R-250 is distinctive in that it uses PDC’s proprietary blade assembly. Engineered as a longer-lived alternative to “spinning knives,” this proprietary cutting solution lasts months, not days, and is a formidable alternative to the fragile knife configurations used in most conventional systems.

The R-250 is controlled with an Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC, Touch Screen and Servos.  Among the R-250’s options is a barcode scanner with laser scan engine that reads both 1D and 2D barcodes.

The R-250 applies full sleeve shrink labels and tamper evident sleeves at speeds of 50 to 250 containers per minute.  Mandrels, feed screws, and other change parts can all be switched out quickly with a tool-less changeover feature and menu-driven parameters on the touch screen.

Containers can be filled or empty, and virtually any size or shape.  PVC, PETG, OPS and PLA labels, in gauges as thin as 30 - 40 micron are all compatible.  The R-250 maintains precise graphic orientation for all package shapes.

The updated R-250 Evolution is a heavy-duty packaging solution engineered for maximum flexibility.  Systems can be built with optional modules for vertical and horizontal perforations (important for consumer tamper evidence), and date coding.  The standard sensor and verification package (which includes material-out and film feed jam sensors, and upstream photo-eyes) can be enhanced to identify jams downstream, fallen bottles, low air pressure and other anomalies, and provide detailed machine status indication.

Two options that are particularly relevant for continuous production environments are a zero-downtime, splice-on-the-fly accumulator that allows roll changes without halting production, and a second unwind reel.  An articulating splice table for precise roll splicing, also conveyors and shrink tunnels, either dry heat or steam, can be supplied as part of an R-250 system.
