Sherry Engineering Group Adds Capabilities with Installation of SEM

Sherry Engineering Group (SEG) is pleased to announce the recent installation of a new Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), for its Tulsa, Okla. metropolitan area division. The new instrument is equipped with an Oxford detector system which allows for enhanced materials characterization and microanalysis.

"The new SEM can detect lighter elements, meaning better detection of elements such as chlorine and sulfur, as well as being able to identify oxygen and carbon, which is an addition to our capabilities," said Steve Reilly, Vice President- Sherry Engineering Group.

According to Deidre Vance, Supervisor of Sherry Engineering Group in Oklahoma, this opens up several new opportunities. "This equipment will enable us to provide more in-depth analysis, allowing us to better service our clients," said Vance. "We will be able to more precisely identify the root cause of their problem."

A high pressure chamber, included with the SEM, allows for the analysis of nonconductive and some semi-liquid samples. This new capability enables an SEG engineer to examine plastics, rubber materials, insulation and other nonmetallic materials that previously were limited to light microscopy.

"We are in a better position now to support other Sherry divisions, including our Nonmetallic Testing Lab, said Reilly. "Coupled with the technical expertise of the SEG staff, the new SEM enhances our ability to serve our clients to the fullest extent, as well as grow our business."
