Shermco Expands Power Cable Testing Capabilities

January 29, 2009

DALLAS - Shermco Industries has recently acquired the VLF HVA 30, a 4 in 1 universal high voltage test system that will compliment the company's existing cable testing abilities. The new equipment will help Shermco evaluate aged cable structures to determine how long they will last and how effectively they are operating.

The smallest, lightest and most advanced universal high voltage test instrument available, the HVA 30 has the following features and benefits:

Rugged, one piece portability
Easy to use, ergonomic, menu guided, large backlit user interface
Large output load capability (up to 5°F)
Automatic and integrated load capacitance measurement with optimum frequency selection
Real-time Display of actual output waveform
Storage of test results for later retrieval or download to a PC/Laptop
Short circuit protected and zero voltage switching

In addition to using the HVA 30 as a service, Shermco Industries will provide training on it. Thad Brown, vice president of Shermco's Engineering Services Division, says industrial plants will greatly benefit from the new equipment.

"The HVA 30 will meet all cable testing requirements that the industry has," said Brown. "It's also ideally suited for a variety of applications such as capacitors, switchgear, transformers, insulators and brushings."

The HVA 30 is the latest addition to Shermco's range of reliable testing procedures including DC Over Potential, AC Insulation Power Factor and Online Partial Discharge.
