New ¼ Sheet Sander With Superior Sandpaper Attachment System
Mount Prospect, Ill., May 18, 2004 - Today, Bosch Power Tools and Accessories, a division of the Robert Bosch Tool Corporation, introduced the 1297DK 1/4-sheet palm-grip finishing sander kit with Bosch SheetLoc(TM) Sandpaper Attachment System, award-winning Microfilter(TM) dust collection, and low-vibration technologies; the most innovation the category has experienced in years.
The finishing sander - also called "sheets sander" or "orbital sander" - remains popular for many reasons, including its unique ability to accept virtually any type of sandpaper, as well as its ability to get into corners. However, several aspects of finishing sanders have been in need of improvement, and Bosch addresses each of them with the 1297D.
SheetLoc, the 1297D's most important innovation, is a fast and easy paper attachment system that pulls regular sandpaper flat and tight for efficient, uniform sanding and longer paper life. With the press of a button, the sander's front paper clamp lifts to slide the paper in. By simply releasing the button, the paper is secured. Clamping the paper at the back is done by pulling a lever, which causes the rear clamp to first clasp the paper, then pull it flat and tight as the clamp is locked into position. The SheetLoc system eliminates the need to fold or bend the paper and the struggle often associated with correctly positioning the paper under the troublesome wire clamp systems found on other finishing sanders.
In essence, the SheetLoc system gives regular sandpaper the benefits of "stick-on" adhesive sandpaper - ease of installation, prevention of creases and tears, and efficient, uniform sanding, but without the added expense; ¼-sheet stick-on paper typically costs twice as much as regular ¼-sheet sandpaper. (The 1297D will accept stick-on paper if regular paper is not available.)
Bosch also improved finishing sander dust collection by including its award-winning Microfilter dust canister with the 1297D. Industry experts have praised the feature since its introduction, and this marks the first time Bosch includes the patented canister with a finishing sander. With through-the-pad dust collection, the durable canister provides up to 75-percent collection efficiency, capturing up to 40-percent more than competitive devices. The Microfilter captures particles as small as a ½ of a micron in diameter - about 120 times smaller than the thickness of a human hair. The Microfilter canister makes for a cleaner workspace and more pleasant work environment. Additional dust protection such as the tool's sealed on/off switch extends the life of the tool, as well.
Comfort is of utmost importance with sanders, because of their use over extended periods of time. For maximum comfort, Bosch designed the 1297D with a low-vibration three-point internal counter-balance system, ergonomic soft-grip top for enhanced comfort and control, and all ball-bearing construction for smooth operation and long life.
The 1297DK kit comes complete with Microfilter dust canister, a sheet of 120-grit sandpaper, paper punch plate and versatile carrying bag. Bosch will also launch a complete line of sandpaper, including 1/4-sheet solutions that will accompany the 1297DK, during the summer 2004.
