SSC 2800: Muehlbauer Presents the Most Flexible Sheet Collating System Available on the Market

Roding, July 22th 2004

Muehlbauer introduces the new SSC 2800: a semiautomatic sheet collating system offering card manufacturers the highest flexibility, highest accuracy and lowest cost of ownership.

Among the first steps in the manufacturing process of laminated plastic cards, including microprocessor and dual-interface cards, is the collating and aligning of the different layers. Both the printed core sheets and the front and rear overlays must be precisely aligned to each other and welded together to form a complete set.

With the SSC 2800, the core sheets are placed manually onto the infeed table, aligned, automatically welded and brought into the machine. The overlay material is fed in automatically from a roll and features, such as magnetic stripes, can be accurately positioned before being welded to the printed core. The complete set is cut into perfectly matching sheets and placed on the output stacker.

The significant advantages of Muehlbauer's new SSC 2800 include the possibility of aligning the overlay in the x-direction according to print marks and the ability to run the collating process with only one or even no overlay at all. All kinds of material can be processed (e.g. PC, PET, PET-G) and changeover to a different sheet format can be done in less than 20 minutes.

The SSC 2800 can process overlays with thickness down to 40 microns while guaranteeing a collating accuracy of ±0.15 mm and throughput of 600 sets/hour. Featuring Muehlbauer's steel welded framework, the robust and compact structure of the SSC 2800 offers both the highest reliability and the smallest footprint. Combined with its competitive price, the SSC 2800 semiautomatic sheet collating system enables customers to achieve significant savings in terms of cost per card and overall cost of ownership.
