Shandong Airlines Orders 12 737-800 Blended Winglet(TM) Systems

Shandong Operates All-Blended Winglet 737-NG Fleet

SEATTLE, Wash., April 1 // -- Aviation Partners Boeing is proud to announce that Shandong Airlines plans to continue to operate the only All-Winglet fleet of 737-NG aircraft in China. This is the second winglet purchase made by Shandong Airlines, following their order for seven shipsets in 2004 that launched in-production installed buyer furnished winglets in China. Today Shandong Airlines continues to set the trend in China by operating the most fuel efficient, environmentally friendly passenger aircraft in the world.

"Shandong Airlines continues to show their understanding that Blended Winglets are the most obvious and effective way to maintain a technological advantage over their competition," says Aviation Partners Boeing CEO John Reimers. "The emphasis in China to develop the country's infrastructure through technological solutions is supported perfectly by Blended Winglets, and Shandong has embraced them as a required feature on their aircraft."

The fuel savings of more than 200 tonnes per aircraft per year will result in an annual fleet fuel savings of almost 4 million kilograms per year. In addition to the economic advantages, the pollutant emissions are reduced similarly, further supporting the responsible infrastructure development initiative in China.

"We are very proud that Shandong's past success with Blended Winglets has led to this follow-on agreement," says Aviation Partners Boeing Sales Director Craig McCallum. "Chinese airlines continue to gain experience with the benefits of winglets and are taking advantage of them more effectively."

Today, Blended Winglets are operated on more than 1,700 aircraft by more than 100 operators worldwide.
