Shaft Collars feature RoHS-compliant yellow zinc plating.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring anti-corrosive properties, Carbon Steel Shaft Collars with zinc plating come in 1- and 2-piece clamp-style designs with bore sizes from 1/8-6 in. and 3-80 mm. High face-to-bore perpendicularity ensures that components are properly positioned and not tilted on shaft, and that there is even pressure on interfaced components. All yellow zinc parts are plated using RoHS-compliant trivalent process.

RoHS Compliant Yellow Zinc Plated Shaft Collars From Ruland

Marlborough, Massachusetts, March 2008. Ruland is now offering lead-free carbon steel shaft collars with RoHS compliant yellow zinc plating. The zinc plating offers good anti-corrosive properties yet these shaft collars are less expensive than stainless steel alternatives. All of Ruland's yellow zinc parts are plated using a RoHS compliant trivalent process instead of the non-compliant hexavalent process.

Zinc plated shaft collars have less holding power than their black oxide finished carbon steel counterparts. This is due to the reduced coefficient of friction caused by the zinc plating. However, performance of zinc plated parts that utilize plated, high strength alloy steel hardware is still greater than that of stainless steel parts whose holding power suffers from the lower physical properties of stainless steel screws. To meet the application's specific requirements, Ruland offers collars in a variety of materials including type 303 stainless steel, type 316 stainless steel for increased corrosion resistance, aluminum, black oxide carbon steel and engineered plastic.

The shaft collars are available in one- and two-piece clamp-style designs with bore sizes from 1/8" to 6" in the inch series and 3mm to 80mm in the metric series. Clamp-style collars do not mar the shaft, provide higher holding power, and are more easily adjustable when compared to set screw type shaft collars. All Ruland shaft collars are manufactured with high face to bore perpendicularity. Precise shaft collar face to bore relationship ensures that components are both properly positioned and not tilted on the shaft. Collar face perpendicularity also ensures even pressure on interfaced components.

Shaft collars are part of Ruland's complete product line which also includes rigid couplings with precision honed bores and five types of zero-backlash motion control couplings: beam couplings, bellows couplings, oldham couplings, jaw couplings and miniature disc couplings.

About Ruland:
Ruland Manufacturing Co., Inc. has been a precision manufacturer since 1937, making a variety of products including the valve that pressurized the spacesuit of the first American to walk in space. Ruland's focus for the past 40 years has been on high performing shaft collars and couplings. The complete line of products includes shaft collars and rigid couplings, and a full line of motion control couplings: beam couplings, bellows couplings, oldham couplings, miniature disc couplings and zero backlash jaw couplings.
