Curtiss-Wright Debuts Highest Performance 4th Gen Intel® Core® I7-Based 3U VPX Single Board Computer

New VPX3-1258 delivers 2.4GHz quad-core (8-thread) performance

ASHBURN, Va. – Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division has introduced the VPX3-1258 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 single board computer (SBC), its highest performance Core i7-based 3U OpenVPX™ small form factor processing engine. The rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) board features Intel’s latest 4th generation Intel Core i7 (“Haswell”) chip-set. It is designed for use in compute-intensive applications deployed in space, weight and power (SWaP)-constrained platforms. The board delivers 2.4GHz quad-core (8-thread) performance supported with up to 16 GB of dual-channel high-speed ECC-protected DDR3 memory. With its support for a “seamless” upgrade path between older and future Intel processors, the board simplifies customers’ long-term technology plans. Because it’s pin-compatible with previous generations of Curtiss-Wright Intel-based SBCs, the VPX3-1258 is ideal for use in technology upgrade programs. What’s more, with built-in support for “drop-in” processor replacement, the VPX3-1258 eases future upgrades to Intel’s 5th generation Core i7 processor (expected to be released in 2015). This fully ruggedized board speeds and simplifies the integration of high performance processing into demanding defense and aerospace deployed applications such as mission computing, general processing, virtualization and small multi-SBC ISR.

“With the launch of our VPX3-1258 3U OpenVPX single board computer, Curtiss-Wright continues to strengthen our position as a market leader in delivering maximum compute performance to the most space-constrained environments,” said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Defense Solutions division. “Our highest performance Intel-based 3U SBC yet released, the VPX3-1258 features improved processor performance, enhanced graphics and support for AVX2 floating point instructions to bring high-end desktop computing to the most demanding military platforms.”

Full System Solutions

The VPX3-1258 is easily integrated with other members of Curtiss-Wright’s extensive 3U OpenVPX product family, including Intel, Power® Architecture and ARM-based SBCs, powerful graphics modules, and DSP and FPGA engines to integrate powerful ISR/SIGINT applications. When combined with a Curtiss-Wright Electronic Packaging chassis and high-performance backplanes these modules provide system designers with a complete end-to-end solution from a single supplier.
