Portal Gold MediaLink Sets Sail
Hackensack N.J., September 6, 2002 - Ong Corporation, a provider of leading-edge end-to-end digital solutions, is proud to announce shipment of the new Portal Gold MediaLink-a scalable and completely customizable set-top box (STB). In their first installation, Portal Gold Medialinks form the core of the entertainment systems on a well-known sports figure's new custom-built yacht, providing movies on demand to the 12 staterooms on board.
"MediaLink represents the final footprint that dedicated, point-of-presence ISP's have been missing to realize revenue that was never before available," says company president Lance Ong. MediaLink utilizes Sigma Designs' new chipset for MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding and Tvia's 5350 display chip for 3D graphics. The product's new fan-less design and small footprint also makes it perfect for Video on Demand (VOD) and related media applications. MediaLink has also been tested for use in the biometrics, kiosk and the medical industries with great response.
Portal Gold MediaLink also presents a price/performance advantage over competitive units. Most STBs incorporate bells and whistles that drive prices upwards of $750. MediaLink, on the other hand, costs a mere $450 and is designed in such a way that Ong Corporation can add or eliminate features in accordance with customers' application requirements. MediaLink comes standard with 2 USB ports, serial port, Ethernet port, audio in/out, S-Video, composite video, and microphone input for videoconferencing. Facilitating easy expansion, the unit also contains a PCI slot, two mini PCI slots, a Compact Flash connector, an IDE hard drive connector, S/PDIF header for stereo digital audio output, and expandable memory. If a customer has a project requiring a WiFi or wireless connection, for example, Ong Corporation can add a standard device to the mini PCI slot that facilitates that need. Other options such as a 56K modem, and analog TV or HDTV tuner can also be added easily at costs reflecting only the options needed.
