Servo System promotes stability in position-critical jobs.

Press Release Summary:

To address instability issues inherent in high-speed precision motion system applications, XtraDrive-DL (dual loop) senses and compensates for load position inaccuracies caused by repetitive motion, temperature variances, and component wear. It also compensates for instabilities caused by backlash and reduces tracking error to ±1 micron. System consists of integrated amplifier/1.5 axis controller, dual-loop option board, and motor.

New XtraDive®-DL Servo System Achieves Greater Stability in Position-Critical Applications

Manchester, NH -- YET US Inc. announces the addition of the XtraDrive-DL to their XtraDrive Servo System product line. The new DL (dual loop) model effectively addresses instability issues inherent in high-speed precision motion system applications requiring superior precision accuracy.

In motion systems configured with mechanical transmissions, the effects of repetitive motion, temperature variances and component wear inevitably cause load position inaccuracies. The XtraDrive-DL automatically senses and compensates for these inaccuracies as well as instabilities caused by backlash, providing better position control.

The dual-loop technique features two encoders, one that commutates the motor and another that is placed at the actual positioning point, allowing the drives' control algorithm to function more intelligently. This configuration significantly reduces tracking error from a typically accepted 10-12 microns to a previously unachievable +/- 1 micron. The dual-loop also automatically compensates for errors that occur over time from "cold" start machines through "stable" operation. No additional external power supply for the load encoder is needed.

The XtraDrive's patented NCT (non-linear control technology) algorithm is impervious to external interference, and is enhanced with ECAM capability to provide highly complex motion profiles based on master or virtual axis encoder position. The unique adaptive control structure provides unprecedented stability and eliminates costly re-tuning efforts by automatically adjusting to changing load requirements. Zero settling time is achieved for maximum system throughput.

The XtraDrive-DL system consists of an integrated amplifier/1.5 axis controller, dual-loop option board and motor. This simplified design functions as a stand-alone unit, is easily integrated into existing systems, or can be driven by an analog, step and direction, or reference from a PLC or multi-axis controller.

Applications include high performance machines in the assembly, packaging, material handling, metal-working, machine tool, display inspection machines and other general purpose equipment.
