High Speed Distributed Servo Controller



Pompano Beach, FL - June 4, 2007 - RTP announces the third in the previously announced line of intelligent I/O modules, the Intelligent Servo Card.

Now OEMs and owners of rotating machinery can experience a new level of performance and availability from their equipment. With scan rates of this module between 1000 to 2000 scans per second depending on the size of the application, higher efficiencies will be achieved based on being able to control the machine closer to the limits of the original design. Additionally, the card has advanced diagnostic capability and can be operated in single, dual, or triple modular redundant configurations providing end users with previously unheard levels of machine availability.

All of the IEC 61131-3 compatible languages available in RTP's NetArrays application can be downloaded to and run in the intelligent servo card. NetArrays independent programs are nested in the main program and downloaded to the intelligent modules.

Like the 8714 Intelligent Speed Counter Card previously announced, the 8720 can be configured to run in centralized or distributed mode. In centralized mode, the 8720 serves as I/O for the Node Processor. Inputs are read and the Node Processor sets outputs. In distributed mode, the 8720 runs the user program that is downloaded from NetArrays, RTP's logic development tool kit. In this mode, the program running in the 8720 controls the outputs. Even in distributed mode, tag values are available to the central node controller.

The 8720 Intelligent Servo Card includes two (2) LVDT inputs, two (2) ±100ma outputs, and four digital inputs.

This module, as well as the previously announced Intelligent Counter Module, have been submitted to TUV for IEC 61508 certification.
