AT&T to Offer Small/Medium Businesses Subscription-Based Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Defense Service

BEDMINSTER, N.J., March 26 /-- Building upon its portfolio of enterprise security offers, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced a first-of-its-kind, subscription-based Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation offering for small and medium-sized businesses.

The offer -- AT&T DDoS Defense Subscription -- is a self-managed service that provides customers with as-needed protection against malicious traffic while keeping costs low. The service is available as an option to all AT&T Internet Protect(R) customers. Today's announcement is the latest example of AT&T's efforts to drive its most sophisticated enterprise capabilities, offers and services down-market to serve small and medium-sized businesses.

"We've introduced a DDoS Defense subscription option in response to the demand from small and medium-sized businesses that are not under constant attack, but that want and need the protection and support from AT&T if and when an attack happens," said Stan Quintana, vice president of AT&T Security Services. "Under this subscription model, customers can realize the benefits of our managed DDoS Defense, but in a self-controlled environment."

The AT&T DDoS Defense Subscription offer helps customers to detect Internet attack traffic via their own edge-based detection solutions. When an attack is detected, the user activates the AT&T DDoS Mitigation Portal, a Web- based tool, from which clients can divert the traffic to be filtered to a shared scrubbing facility. The scrubbing facility identifies and drops malicious DDoS attack packets while allowing other traffic to pass through to the customer's network. Once the attack has ended, the user can end the mitigation measures through the portal.

AT&T DDoS Defense is an option of AT&T Internet Protect(R), a security- alerting and notification service that offers advanced information regarding potential real-time attacks (viruses, worms and DDoS attacks) that are in the early-formation stages. AT&T Internet Protect(R) uses the AT&T IP backbone as a proxy of general Internet traffic and provides valuable real-time analysis of Internet traffic, which customers can use to predict and prevent malicious traffic from infecting their network. It performs real-time examination of more than 9.59 petabytes of data traffic on an average business day to identify malicious activity from the Internet.

By the summer of 2007, AT&T DDoS Defense Service, including this new subscription offer, will also be available in 32 countries throughout Europe.

AT&T has an industry-recognized strong track record of security service delivery. Its enterprise security portfolio is focused on providing companies with security services "in the cloud" to minimize the dependency on hardware and software while supporting a "defense in depth" security architecture with security features built into every network layer and every supporting process.

AT&T delivers a suite of Security and Business Continuity Services to help assess vulnerabilities, protect infrastructure, detect attacks, respond to suspicious activities and events, and design enterprise networking environments for nonstop operations.
