Next Generation of AmosConnect from Stratos Enhances Broadband Connectivity for Vessels at Sea

BETHESDA, MD, Sept. 22 -- Stratos Global Corporation, the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, today introduced AmosConnect 8.0, the next generation of its popular AmosConnect service.
The popular AmosConnect from Stratos service integrates vessel and shore-based office applications. It is an easy-to-use, yet highly sophisticated service that seamlessly integrates email, fax, telex, GSM text, interoffice communication, and access for mobile personnel into a single messaging system.
AmosConnect 8.0 enhances new broadband IP-based maritime satellite services which include FleetBroadband, the VSAT solutions OceanVSAT and StratosITek and the soon-to-be-available Iridium OpenPort. AmosConnect 8.0 also supports all narrowband satellite connections.
With AmosConnect 8.0, Stratos expands upon its popular service by delivering web acceleration, FTP acceleration, extended remote configuration, cost allocation, and extended message filtering in addition to its current features of email messaging, automatic file transfer, and data synchronization - helping to ensure streamlined operations, cost efficiency and optimization of available bandwidth.
Nearly 20,000 AmosConnect from Stratos licenses have been issued and the service is used by more than 200,000 officers and crewmembers. Stratos is the largest supplier of mobile satellite services to the maritime industry, with communications to more than 40,000 maritime terminals worldwide.
Stratos completed replacement of its AmosConnect hub platform with ultra-modern hardware technology and, after extensive testing, expects to begin operation later this month. New vessel-side software is in development and is expected to be introduced in November. Upgrading to AmosConnect 8.0 will be easy for the thousands of vessels that are using AmosConnect from Stratos for their daily communications.
AmosConnect is one of the foundations of the Stratos Advantage, a range of value-added services that provides ship managers with optimal communications performance and cost efficiency. AmosConnect 8.0 is also available in configurations for land-mobile customers using BGAN from Stratos and aeronautical customers using SwiftBroadband from Stratos.
