The Univa Network Delivers Enterprise Support Resource for Grid 2.0

Univa Unveils Comprehensive Support Platform, Knowledge Base and Management Tools for Companies Deploying Enterprise Grids

WASHINGTON, Sept. 11 // -- GridWorld, Washington DC -- Univa Corporation, the leading provider of commercial software, support and services for grid solutions based on open source Globus software, today announced the Univa Network, a comprehensive, subscription-based service to support enterprises deploying Grid 2.0 solutions with Univa products and the open source Globus Toolkit.

The Univa Network will act as the vehicle for delivering customer support, combining knowledge and tools to provide Univa's customers and partners with a single point of contact for all their grid-related needs. Univa is uniquely positioned to deliver this service since its founders coined the term "grid computing", and were the creators of the Globus Toolkit, software that powers over 1,000 grids around the world.

Univa Network subscriptions are available at two levels: basic and premium, to address the requirements of entry-level and enterprise-scale grids. Subscribers have access to:

o Comprehensive Customer Support: Expert technical support building on the company's unique experience as the leading commercial provider of Globus-based technologies. Includes an online, self-service portal with case management from initial issue logging, through engineer-assisted resolution of complex technical challenges.
o Knowledge Base: A dynamic repository of best practices information, 'how-to' documents, answers to common technical problems and other premium content for deployment and management of Globus-based grids.
o Enterprise Grid Management Tools: Installation, configuration, monitoring and administration tools for managing enterprise grids. Includes automated, policy-based software updates; monitoring of the grid environment to ensure that all key components are operating correctly; grid resource usage tracking, and reporting.

IBM, a Univa partner and leader in the field of grid computing, will be one of the first supporters of the Univa Network. The Network will provide product level and infrastructure support for Univa software deployed on IBM platforms in industries including oil and gas, insurance and aerospace. IBM and Univa will be able to deliver robust, enterprise-level support for grid customer projects and deployments that incorporate Univa software.

"The Univa Network is a natural extension of our already strong partnership, and aligns with our strategy to grow the commercial adoption of open-standards based grid technology, which will accelerate the value customers receive from their infrastructure investments," said Ken King, vice president of grid computing at IBM. "Univa's approach fits perfectly with IBM's ongoing efforts to drive enterprise-level support and stability for open enterprise grid implementations."

"Grid 2.0 is all about creating enterprise scale grids that bring together data, compute power, networking and storage, needed to access and use that data," said Tom Gibbs, director of worldwide strategy and planning in Intel's Customer Solutions Group. "We are delighted to be working with Univa who provide support infrastructure, expert knowledge and operational tools to help companies moving to Grid 2.0."

"Grid computing continues to march beyond its scientific roots and into the boardroom," said Michael Ellis, president and CEO, Univa. "Supporting and accelerating this evolution requires services to complement the software and drive maximum value from commercial deployments. The Univa Network provides our customers and partners with access to the knowledge, people and management tools necessary to ensure success in their Globus-based grid initiatives."

Currently in its initial release, the Univa Network is available to select customers and partners. It is also targeted at organizations deploying grids based on the open source Globus Toolkit.
