Oracle Announces Availability of Oracle® Application Server 10g Release 3 and Oracle JDeveloper 10g Release 3

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Feb. 14 / -- Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) today announced general availability of Oracle(R) Application Server 10g Release 3 and Oracle JDeveloper 10g Release 3, components of Oracle Fusion Middleware, the company's comprehensive Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform. Featuring expanded hot-pluggable functionality and secure service delivery, the products enable customers to develop, deploy and manage large-scale SOAs that will help lower the total cost of ownership for mission-critical applications.

Many of the world's leading companies use Oracle Fusion Middleware as the foundation of their SOA to decrease the cost and complexity of developing, integrating and managing enterprise applications. The latest releases of Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle JDeveloper 10g include capabilities that enable customers to more easily integrate applications and data; implement flexible and streamlined business processes; simplify Web development and navigation; and leverage existing information assets. The products provide comprehensive Web Services support; simplified operational and management capabilities; and support for AJAX, JavaServer Faces (JSF) and Enterprise Java Beans (EJB).

Designed to enable users to connect and extend their existing heterogeneous systems, Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3 is certified with open source software including Spring, Apache Struts, Apache Axis, Apache MyFaces, Hibernate, Tapestry, JUnit, CVS, SubVersion, Ant, Eclipse and Log4J. The release also includes an agile business rules engine that customers can use to modify or add business rules without requiring application re-writes -- speeding time to market while reducing development costs. Organizations will also benefit from Oracle's support for the latest J2EE standards, the industry's most comprehensive EJB 3.0 implementation with Oracle TopLink; Web services facilities including WS-I compliance and support for a number of Web services standards; enhanced and easier to manage JMS features; and new JAAS, Java2 and WS-SEC based security facilities.

"Today's organizations need flexible solutions to quickly and easily react to changing market demands," said Oracle's Senior Vice President of Server Technologies, Thomas Kurian. "The latest releases of Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle JDeveloper 10g provide users with the industry's most comprehensive tools for all developer levels and a unique hot-pluggable architecture that can couple the best development capabilities with leading open source and third-party frameworks."

Standards-Based Development Framework

Java developers building service-oriented applications using Java, XML, Web Services and SQL, will benefit from new features designed to support every step of the development lifecycle from modeling and coding to tuning and deploying applications. This release features native AJAX support to help create interactive Web applications that simplify a user's browsing experience and enhance Internet navigation. In addition to support for the latest Java standards, Oracle JDeveloper 10g Release 3, Oracle Application Development Framework and Oracle TopLink include usability enhancements; comprehensive, more powerful and easy-to-use code re-factoring, code assists, easy code navigation; and a visual, declarative JSF and Struts-based development environment with an extensive library of graphical user interface components. These also support the EJB 3.0 specification, which Oracle is co-leading with Sun.

"Finally, there is a tool that reduces development costs, while building on powerful under-the-hood runtime capabilities required by more advanced programmers -- even Web designers can use Oracle JDeveloper 10g to build highly scalable, dynamic Web pages," said Eric Marcoux, Technical Architect, Fujitsu Consulting. "The overall look and feel puts the most relevant tools into the right hands."
