FalconStor's Next Generation iSCSI Storage Server Delivers Comprehensive Disaster Recovery, Superior Disk-Based Backup and Rapid Restore

iSCSI Solution Offers Unified Storage Services for Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003, Optimizing the Storage, Protection and Availability of E-mail and Database Applications

MELVILLE, N.Y., January 4, 2005-Strengthening its commitment to supporting the Windows platform,, FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced the next generation of its iSCSI Storage Server software solution built on Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003, providing comprehensive disaster recovery, superior disk-based backup and rapid data restore to Windows customers.

"The FalconStor iSCSI Storage Server performed exactly as promised. As one of the largest fire protection engineering firms in the world, we fully recognize the value of reliable protection, especially for our business critical data and applications," said Ron Proctor, IT director, TVA Fire & Safety in San Diego, CA. "We are especially looking forward to the enhanced replication services FalconStor has developed in the new version, which will enable us to implement an all-inclusive disaster recovery strategy."

FalconStor's iSCSI Storage Server for Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 also offers a new level of disaster recovery, via IP-based delta replication of an application host's mission-critical data, from a primary site to a remote site over IP in a peer-to-peer or many-to-one configuration, based on policy. The iSCSI Storage Server also protects host-based systems and user workstations via replication of local files and directories, as well as mirroring an entire local disk to an iSCSI server-managed disk for automated off-site data storage backup and disaster recovery.

"FalconStor's iSCSI Storage Server, combined with Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003, will help businesses of all sizes do more with less across the Windows Server System, from replication to consolidating storage for their Windows application servers," said Claude Lorenson, technical product manager, Windows Server Division at Microsoft Corp. "With this next generation iSCSI Storage Server, FalconStor continues to demonstrate its dedication to addressing the storage needs of Windows customers through networked storage on the Windows platform."

FalconStor is one of the first companies to recognize the real world business advantages associated with iSCSI, and continues to develop cost effective, innovative software designed to reduce the overall complexities and costs associated with a dynamic storage environment, while also developing solutions that take full advantage of the inherent manageability of Storage Server 2003.

Ensuring constant data availability, the next generation iSCSI Storage Server software solution includes:

· A FalconStor-based Multipathing Service for Fibre Channel-attached storage, creating parallel, active storage paths that transparently reroutes traffic to a redundant storage path without interruption, in the event of a storage network problem;

· Load balancing to enhance peak performance of the storage by automatically distributing traffic among the storage paths for higher throughput, while eliminating bottlenecks to deliver 24x7 availability;

· A two-node active-active failover/fail-back FalconStor-based cluster configuration, to ensure that application hosts are not interrupted due to failure, providing the highest-level of data continuity possible for maintaining business continuity.

New features for reliable data backup and rapid restoration include:

· The Consistency Group feature, allowing virtual drives to be grouped for snapshot synchronization purposes. Snapshots for all resources in a group are taken at the same point-in-time for the snapshot, replication, and backup services. This feature, building on and working in conjunction with database-aware Snapshot Agents, ensures transactional integrity for database files that reside on multiple file systems for data recovery purposes;

· The backup and restoration of iSCSI disks provisioned to application hosts via a "zero-impact backup" (ZIB) model, significantly reduces the backup window and the administrative overhead associated with managing backup software at individual hosts, and can now be accomplished by certified 3rd party backup applications running on Windows Storage Server 2003;

· Cost effective storage to support the disk-to-disk (D2D) option of a wide variety of third party backup software via unique capacity on demand technology, which optimizes storage usage and capacity based on policy by compressing stale data, and expanding virtual disks as needed.

FalconStor continues to expand its support for leading databases and messaging systems with ongoing development of new agents for the mot popular platform and applications today.

About the iSCSI Storage Server

The iSCSI Storage Server leverages FalconStor's award winning IPStor® enterprise level software, and is the first fully featured, seamlessly integrated software solution designed specifically to transform Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 into a unified storage platform, providing both file and block level services. Initially launched by FalconStor in April 2004, the iSCSI Storage Server addresses the needs of SMB/departmental customers by enabling Windows Storage Server 2003 to offer SAN-based snapshot, delta replication and zero-impact backup and restore services to application hosts attached to an IP network. To optimize system availability and business productivity, the iSCSI Storage Server also offers mirroring and cluster services, which enable continuous operation during a planned or unplanned outage.
