NEI Expands NEBS Product Line with New N-1500 R2 Server

Industry's First AC-Specified Platform Serves Diverse Telecommunications Applications

CANTON, Mass., Feb. 3 /- NEI (NASDAQ:NENG), a leading provider of application platforms, appliances and services for storage, security and communications software developers, today announced the Network Equipment Building Systems' (NEBS) Level 3 certification of its AC-specified N-1500 R2 platform. The N-1500 R2 is uniquely designed to meet the demand for high reliability, long-life deployments in AC-powered environments and is the first such platform of its kind. It offers Telecommunication Equipment Manufacturers (TEMs) greater deployment choices using NEI's full line of carrier-grade solutions to open new market opportunities, accelerate time-to-market and deliver leading-edge performance.

"To serve the growing international market for highly reliable, long-life platforms in AC-powered environments, NEI wisely invested the time and money to design, evaluate and run the N-1500 R2 AC version through NEBS Level 3 testing," said Jeff Hudgins, vice president of marketing, NEI. "The result is a fully certified solution that enables TEMs to address new and emerging market opportunities and data center applications that do not have the infrastructure to support DC systems."

The N-1500 R2 features dual- or quad-core Intel Xeon processors and up to 24 GB of memory. It also offers three hot-swap 2.5-inch SAS drives and a full height/length PCI-X or PCIe slot.

"The N-1500 R2 is impressive from both a functionality and performance point-of-view," said Eric Heikkila, director, embedded hardware and systems, VDC Research. "Having met NEBS' rigorous operational and environmental tests, the N-1500 R2 is poised to allow VARs, ISVs, network equipment manufacturers and OEMs to deploy robust, long-life communications solutions with value-add services at a lower price point by reducing time-to-market and maximizing return on investment."

To assist customers with various deployment and maintenance challenges, NEI offers a variety of support and service programs to ensure high availability, rapid response, effective troubleshooting, fast parts replacement and 24-hour technical support.

About NEBS

NEBS is an acknowledged North American standard established by Telcordia, and required by all major carriers. NEBS Certification indicates that a product is operationally ready for deployment in a carrier's network. The certification tests are an extensive set of environmental and safety tests designed to ensure maximum network performance and reliability under stressful conditions. These tests include extreme temperatures, 7.8 to 8.4 magnitude earthquakes, flammability, mechanical shock, electrostatic discharge, and contamination. The highest level of NEBS compliance is Level 3.
