Serializer/Deserializer provides 15 kV ESD protection.

Press Release Summary:

Using low-power, low-EMI CTL(TM) technology, µSerDes(TM) Model FIN224AC reduces 24 or 12 parallel LVTTL signals typically required in ultra-portables to single differential serial signal, eliminating number of wires in application while also removing problematic electromagnetic radiation from data paths. Lead-free device eliminates need for EMI shielding and filters to facilitate design of high-resolution HVGA displays and multi-megapixel cameras.

Original Press Release:

Fairchild Semiconductor's New µSerDes(TM) Products Offer 15kV ESD and Superior EMI for Portable Applications

South Portland, Maine--August 22, 2006--Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), innovator of the industry's leading serialization solution for small displays and cameras in portable electronics, introduces key enhancements to its µSerDes(TM) technology. Using the same footprint and base architecture as its popular predecessor, the FIN24AC, the new FIN224AC offers enhanced ESD protection and reduced EMI. As with any handheld electronic equipment, damage from electrostatic discharge is a primary concern. Fairchild addressed this challenge by increasing ESD protection from 8kV in the FIN24AC to 15kV in the FIN224AC. Another enhancement is the implementation of rolled edge rates of the LVTTL outputs to further reduce EMI. This is particularly advantageous in cell phones and other wireless applications where minimizing noise is crucial.

Fairchild's µSerDes products use patented low-power, low-EMI CTL(TM) technology to reduce 24 or 12 parallel LVTTL signals typically required in ultra-portables to a single differential serial signal. This innovative approach eliminates the number of wires in an application, simplifying the design and saving space, while also removing problematic electromagnetic radiation from wide, high-speed data paths. Fairchild's µSerDes devices are easily adaptable to a wide range of technologies since they offer similar benefits to any application with a small display or camera. Driven by the high data-rate demands of cameras and displays along with the mechanical requirements of clamshell and slider form factors, cell phone designers were the first to adopt µSerDes technology.

"Fairchild has worked closely with our customers to refine our µSerDes technology and produce a device that addresses all their concerns while simplifying converging technologies into even smaller, thinner applications," says Chris Ferland, Fairchild's µSerDes(TM) marketing manager. "Fairchild's FIN224AC fulfills an important need in portable applications."

Fairchild's µSerDes is a breakthrough technology embodying the company's focus on high-performance analog products. After successfully developing this advanced technology in cooperation with its customers, Fairchild continues to enhance µSerDes devices to meet the requirements of next-generation electronics. µSerDes devices simplify designs with high-resolution HVGA displays and multi-megapixel cameras. In many designs, this approach also lowers the total solution cost of these high-speed interfaces by reducing connector and flex cable requirements and by eliminating the need for EMI shielding and filters.
