USB Gives Two Serial Ports to Laptops
Fairport, New York. USB-2COM and USB-2COMi are ready-made cable solutions for allowing RS232 or RS422/485 serial devices to talk to newer USB PC's. The cost-effective USB-2COM and USB-2COMi are based on FTDI's single chip FT232BM USB UART i.c. for transferring serial data over the Universal Serial Bus. USB-2COM and USB-2COMi are serial-port USB Adapters housed in strong plastic enclosures and designed for rugged application areas. They add two RS232 or RS422/485 Windows Serial COM ports (Virtual COMports) without needing card-slots. They use the laptop's USB connection - great for laptop PCs without even one serial port! USB Plug-and-Play allows easy serial port expansion and requires no IRQ, DMA, or I/O port resources. Connection to USB is via the 0.9m detachable USB cable included. In addition, USB-2COMi has an internal jumper strip which allows configuration for either RS-422 or RS-485 mode, ideal for peripherals such as POS and Industrial Control devices.
USB-2COM and USB-2COMi feature a full set of data and control signals (TX-, TX+, RX+, RX-, GND, RTS-, RTS+, CTS+, CTS-) on their DB9M connectors.
USB-2COM and USB-4COM have an internal 128 byte transmit buffer FIFO and a 384 byte receive buffer FIFO and support data transfer rates of up to 1 million bps. No external power supply is required as USB-2COM and USB-2COMi take their power from the USB bus.
USB-2COM comes complete with drivers for Microsoft Windows98/ME/2K/xP (Apple OS-8/9/X and Linux drivers are also available).
