Sensor System checks for presence or absence of threads.

Press Release Summary:

Universal ThreadChecker(TM) can discriminate between threaded and unthreaded hole, provides switched as well as high-speed analog output, operates with both ferrous and non-ferrous materials, and can be used with any size probe without recalibration. Including 2, 4, 6, and 10 mm dia probes for internal threads and 6 and 8 mm dia probes for external threads, it inspects internal thread sizes from M3-M14 and external thread sizes from M4-M10.

Original Press Release:

Kaman's New Universal Threadchecker(TM) Checks Both Internal and External Threads on All Conductive Materials and Operates with Any Size Probe

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Kaman's Universal ThreadChecker is an application-specific sensor system designed to check for thread presence/absence. Designed as a "Go/No Go" tool, ThreadChecker can discriminate between a threaded and an unthreaded hole and provide a switched output. It also offers reliable and repeatable, high-speed analog output.

The new universal system operates with both ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including aluminum, and can be used with any size probe without recalibration. The same system also now checks for both internal and external threads. ThreadChecker is part of Kaman's GageProx family of non-contact, fixed-gain sensors with analog linear outputs. GageProx uses inductive technology that senses without touching the object and is unaffected by environmental contaminants.

Kaman offers six sensor models - 2mm, 4mm, 6mm and 10mm diameter probes for internal threads, and 6mm and 8mm diameter probes for external threads - giving ThreadChecker the ability to inspect internal thread sizes from M3 through M14, and external thread sizes from M4 through M10.

ThreadChecker sensors and the electronics package are designed to be rugged and reliable, meeting IP-67 specifications, and are ideal for machine shop, in-die, or other industrial environments. There is no need to clean and dry the part being checked, as inductive sensors are unaffected by moisture, oils, cleaners, grease, dirt, and grime.

The universal ThreadChecker offers superior performance to both ferrous and nonferrous materials. Fixed-gain analog output and opto-isolated NPN switching output make this system perfect for set-it-and-forget-it applications including automated assembly and test and inspection. Setup is a simple matter of "teaching" the device to recognize a threaded hole vs. an unthreaded one. The user inserts the sensor into a threaded hole and presses the "teach" button. He then inserts the same sensor into an unthreaded hole and presses the "teach" button again. A switched output and system LED will then indicate if a hole is threaded or unthreaded.

The Universal ThreadChecker is in stock and available immediately from Kaman Measuring and Memory Systems.

Kaman Measuring and Memory Systems, an operating unit of Kaman Precision Products, has led the industry for over 40 years in solving difficult industrial sensing applications when the target cannot be touched.
