Crossbow Technology Releases Miniature, Low Cost µNAV(TM) Sensor Package for Air/Ground Robotic Vehicles

Complete Sensing Solution for Radio Control and Robotic Systems Targets Miniature Ground and Airborne Vehicles

San Jose, California - June 6, 2005 - Crossbow Technology, Inc. (www.xbow.com), the leading provider of inertial systems to the Avionics market announced the release of the µNAV(TM), a low cost, miniature sized complete air/ground vehicle sensor package. The µNAV is a calibrated digital sensor system and servo control board targeted at miniature ground and airborne vehicles. Typical applications for the µNAV sensor system include navigation and control in robotics and radio control (R/C) aircraft.

The µNAV 9-axis sensor suite includes accelerometers, angular rate sensors, and magnetometers for inner loop control applications. It also combines static pressure (altitude) and dynamic pressure (airspeed) sensors for airborne control and a GPS receiver for navigation and path planning. The µNAV R/C servo driving hardware allows direct connection of remote control servos to the µNAV for software control. The R/C receiver PPM interface allows for software interpretation of remote control receiver commands and switching between software control and remote control receiver control for human "takeover" capability. The µNAV firmware and tool chain is open-source for maximum user flexibility. PC based inertial calibration software is included for easy recalibration of the µNAV sensors.

"We are excited about the launch of the µNAV sensor system. It will pave the way for use of MEMS sensors in small sized ground and airborne robotics systems. It will widely extend the applications where Crossbow's state-of-the-art electronic MEMS sensor technology is deployed," said Mike Horton, President and CEO of Crossbow Technology. "It continues to demonstrate our commitment to innovation and establishing leadership in the avionics sensors market."

The µNAV system is now shipping in production. For more information about this product, contact Crossbow Technology at www.xbow.com.
