Honeywell Introduces the FS300-100 Combi-Sensor

Offers Cost Savings with Liquid Temperature and Pressure Sensing in a Single Device

FREEPORT, Ill., June 11, 2004 - Honeywell [NYSE:HON] Sensing and Control introduces the FS300-100 Combi-sensor that measures water pressure and inflow temperature in boiler systems. Honeywell has used extensive experience with pressure and temperature sensing technologies to create a single, combined device that meets specific industry needs. Applications include wall-hung domestic condensing boilers and gas-fired central heating boilers.

This dual-function product provides cost savings in both material and assembly. One sensor instead of two means less wire and fewer connections. The compact design is lighter in weight than existing pressure and temperature sensors combined, contributing to weight reduction of the entire system. The Combi-sensor's analog pressure and temperature output allows system fine tuning in conjunction with electronic control. This capability is extremely important in obtaining peak system efficiency, especially as emission level standards become tighter. The analog output also facilitates additional system features, such as data recorders. The Combi-sensor is offered as a separate device or it may be integrated into other Honeywell control packages, eliminating the need to adjust and calibrate electronic controls.

The Combi-sensor incorporates an ASIC-controlled (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) pressure sensing element. The device has a pressure range of 0 bar to 3 bar relative, an overpressure of 6 bar and a burst pressure of 10 bar. Response times are fast; less than 10 ms for pressure and less than 6 s for temperature. The power supply is 5 Vdc ±10 % and the voltage output is 0.5 Vdc to 4.5 Vdc, ratiometric to Vs. The operating temperature is 5 ºC to 110 ºC [41 ºF to 230 ºF]. The NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) is 10 kOhm at 25 ºC [77 ºF]. The Combi-sensor uses a Lumberg rast 2.5 4-pin connector.

The Combi-sensor is available with several optional features: press fit or screw-in interface, alternative NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) characteristic curves or tolerances, alternative pressure characteristic curves, higher accuracy per customer requirements and different package colors.

A variant of the Combi-sensor, currently under development, will provide water level/temperature sensing in appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers.
