Sensor checks for thread presence.

Press Release Summary:

Gageprox(TM) ThreadChecker(TM) non-contact, inductive sensor discriminates between threaded and unthreaded hole. With 4 or 6 mm diameter tips, it can inspect hole sizes up to M8. Fixed-gain analog output and opto-isolated NPN switching output make system suitable for set-it-and-forget-it applications such as automated assembly and test and inspection. Sensor and electronic package meet IP-67 specifications. Sensor is unaffected by moisture, oils, cleaners, grease, and dirt.

Kaman's New Gageprox(TM) Threadchecker(TM) Features New Sensor Design To Easily Check Thread Presence

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Kaman's ThreadChecker(TM) is an application-specific sensor designed to check for thread presence. Designed as a "Go/No Go" tool, ThreadChecker can discriminate between a threaded and an unthreaded hole and provide a switched output. It offers reliable and repeatable, high-speed thread detection for nearly all thread specifications.

The two new sensor models are designed with extended, flexible tips. These tips have tapered ends to help prevent damage to the sensor during insertion into the holes being inspected. With either 4 mm or 6 mm diameter tips, ThreadChecker can easily inspect hole sizes up to M8.

ThreadChecker is part of the GageProx(TM) family of non-contact, fixed-gain sensors with analog linear outputs. GageProx uses inductive technology that senses without touching the object and is unaffected by environmental contaminants.

ThreadChecker sensors and the electronics package are designed to be rugged and reliable, meeting IP-67 specifications, and are ideal for machine shop, in-die, or other industrial environments. There is no need to clean and dry the part being checked; inductive sensors are unaffected by moisture, oils, cleaners, grease, dirt and grime.

ThreadChecker offers superior performance to ferrous materials. Fixed-gain analog output and opto-isolated NPN switching output make this system perfect for set-it-and-forget-it applications including automated assembly and test and inspection. Setup is a simple matter of "teaching" the device to recognize a threaded hole vs. an unthreaded one. The user inserts the sensor into a threaded hole and presses the "teach" button. He then inserts the same sensor into an unthreaded hole and presses the "teach" button again. A switched output and system LED will then indicate if a hole is threaded or unthreaded.

ThreadChecker is in stock and available immediately from Kaman Aerospace, Measuring and Memory Systems. Prices start at $695 for single quantities.

Kaman Measuring and Memory Systems, a division of Kaman Aerospace, has led the industry for over 40 years in solving difficult industrial sensing applications when the target cannot be touched.
