Sensis Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X Enhancing Safety at Bradley International Airport

First ASDE-X System Operational with Sensis High-performance Surface Movement Radar

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., Aug. 21 // -- Sensis Corporation announced that its Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X) for the Federal Aviation Administration is commissioned and operational at Bradley International Airport, Windsor Locks, Connecticut. ASDE-X provides air traffic controllers with an accurate picture of the location and identity of aircraft and vehicles on the airport surface. This improved situational awareness enables controllers to safely and efficiently manage aircraft and vehicle movement.

The ASDE-X system at Bradley is the first to include an improved surface movement radar (SMRi) which provides enhanced performance and accuracy in poor weather conditions. Earlier this year Sensis announced that the FAA is deploying Sensis SMRi as part of the ASDE-X program and that the agency has ordered 12 (see February 14, 2006 press release for additional information).

ASDE-X uses multiple surveillance sources that allow for coverage in the most complex airport environment; a sophisticated fusion processor to provide a comprehensive surveillance picture of the airport surface; and an integrated display that features an interface developed in full consultation with air traffic controllers.

"With the commissioning of SMRi, all components of the ASDE-X system are now designed and manufactured as an integrated system," said Marc Viggiano, president of Sensis Air Traffic Systems. "No other company in the world can offer this level of integration, or the ease of maintenance, documentation or training that such a system affords."

In addition to Bradley International Airport, the system is now deployed at ten airports and is operational and commissioned at eight. The FAA is in the process of deploying the ASDE-X system to a total of 35 of the nation's airports. Internationally, Sensis is providing its Advanced - Surface Movement Guidance and Control System to airports in New Delhi, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
