SENCORE Unveils the TXS 3453 Transcoder at the 2010 NAB Show
POSTED: Apr 12, 2010

LAS VEGAS - April 12, 2010 - SENCORE, a leading provider of signal quality and video delivery solutions, today unveiled the new TXS 3453 Transcoder, a platform offering real-time, best-in-class transcoding in a reliable, high-density 1RU chassis. The SENCORE TXS 3453 Transcoder includes a configurable compression engine and multichannel architecture, allowing broadcast, cable, and satellite operators to perform both SD and HD transcoding and transrating at an unbeatable cost-per-channel.

Key features of the robust TXS 3453 include state-of-the-art bidirectional video transcoding from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4/H.264 in all common HD or SD formats. While many platforms on the market are capable of multichannel conversion of H.264 to MPEG-2, the TXS 3453 is one of the first in the industry to offer the reverse: the power to transcode up to 16 channels of MPEG-2 to H.264. The TXS 3453 also has the ability to receive IP and ASI inputs - as well as optional RF interfaces - giving even greater flexibility to the platform.

Depending on compression density, the versatile TXS 3453 can be configured to perform either eight channels or 16 channels of real-time format conversion, offering facilities the most cost-effective solution for their specific needs. A complete out-of-the-box solution, the TXS 3453 enables broadcasters to leverage existing legacy MPEG-2 systems and seamlessly transition from SD to HD when ready.

"Satellite providers increasingly save bandwidth by using high-compression formats to deliver digital video, creating a need among broadcast, cable, and satellite operators for high-quality MPEG-2 data conversion," said Thomas Stingley, executive vice president of sales and marketing at SENCORE. "The next 18 to 36 months will see the rollout of many new HD channels around the world, which will place even greater demand on bandwidth. By providing the next generation of highly efficient transcoding, the SENCORE TXS 3453 Transcoder is a cost-effective platform that allows content distributors and redistributors to downconvert SD signals even as they prepare for a full HD transition."

Traditionally, high-quality transcoding required two pieces of gear, a decoder and an encoder. Packing both functions into one device and delivering up to 16 channels, the compact TXS 3453 essentially accomplishes the work of 16 decoders and 16 encoders. To make system monitoring easy, the TXS 3453 uses a single-page Web interface for at-a-glance status updates of each transcode operation. Alarms can be configured by the user either to be logged into the system or to trip an SNMP trap.

The SENCORE TXS 3453 Transcoder is on display this week during the 2010 NAB Show (booth SU4310) and will be available to the marketplace in August 2010.
