Leviton Meets New UL Standard with SmartlockPro® Self-Test GFCI Product Launch

The slimmest GFCI profile on the market and patented Reset Lockout feature makes Leviton's device one of the safest, smartest GFCI solutions

MELVILLE, N.Y., -- Leviton is launching a new SmartlockPro® Self-Test GFCI that will meet the new requirements of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard 943 (GFCIs) taking effect this June. This product launch is the next step in its evolution to improve electrical safety in the home, providing homeowners with one of the safest and smartest GFCI solutions on the market. Revisions to the UL 943 Standard require all GFCI receptacles manufactured after June 29, 2015 to have an auto-monitoring feature (self-test technology) which conducts an internal test to ensure that it is providing protection from ground faults. The SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCIs also include Leviton's patented Reset Lockout protection and have the slimmest GFCI profile on the market, making them a safer and smarter choice.

"Safety has always been a top priority for Leviton, and GFCIs have long been an important part of providing electrical safety in various locations throughout the home," said Bill Grande, Leviton's Director of Safety Products. "The new UL requirements take advantage of available technology to make these devices even more advanced.

The SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCI has an intuitive LED indicator to let homeowners know whether or not the GFCI is providing protection. If the self-test detects any condition that would indicate GFCI protection might be compromised, the visual indicator provides an alert by switching from green to red and the GFCI may be automatically tripped, indicating that the homeowners should check the device for proper operation and replace if necessary. If the device is no longer providing protection, Leviton's patented Reset/Lockout feature provides an added level of safety by preventing reset if the device cannot respond to a ground fault.

In addition to these safety features, Leviton's SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCI also has the slimmest GFCI profile on the market, allowing for easier installation in wallboxes, saving time for contractors, electricians or DIYers.
