New Capital Safety Ultra-Lok(TM) RSQ Self Retracting Lifeline with Rescue Offers World's First Dual-Mode Operation

Exclusive dual-mode operation allows for fall arrest and rescue

RED WING, Minn. - June 10, 2009 - DBI-SALA, a Capital Safety brand, has developed a first-of-its-kind self retracting lifeline (SRL): the Ultra-Lok(TM) RSQ SRL with Rescue. The Ultra-Lok RSQ offers dual-mode operation that provides fall arrest and rescue/descent in one product for superior fall protection.

The world's first dual-mode operation SRL, the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL with Rescue allows the worker to select either the traditional "fall arrest" mode or a "rescue/descent" mode. If a fall event occurs while in the rescue/descent mode, the Ultra-Lok RSQ will arrest the fall and then automatically lower the worker safely to the ground or next level. This two-in-one operation allows the device to be optimized for the jobsite while providing the ultimate level of worker safety.

"DBI-SALA self retracting lifelines are the most technologically advanced fall protection devices available," states Charley Bryant, product marketing manager for hard goods with Capital Safety. "The DBI-SALA Ultra-Lok RSQ Self Retracting Lifeline offers a revolutionary design to allow the worker multiple options within one device, while offering the highest level of security and mobility."

Prior to starting work, the user sets the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL to fall arrest or rescue/descent mode. If a fall were to occur while the device is in the fall arrest mode, a speed-sensing brake automatically stops the fall, reducing the forces exerted on the user to safe levels of 900 lbs or less. The fall arrest mode also allows for assisted rescue to take place. To conduct an assisted rescue, a co-worker would manually switch the selector to the rescue/descent mode, which lowers the fallen worker at a controlled speed to the ground or next level. If the SRL is out of immediate reach but within 16 feet, the co-worker can use a First-Man-Up(TM) Pole and Assisted Rescue Tool to move the selector to the rescue/descent mode. The fall arrest mode is ideal for situations in which the user is working over dangerous objects, such as moving machinery or traffic, or when the next level below the work area is more than 50 feet away.

If a fall occurs while the device is in rescue/descent mode, the speed-sensing brake stops the free fall and a centrifugal brake instantly lowers the user at a controlled speed to the ground or next level. The rescue/descent mode is ideal for situations in which the user is working alone or remotely, or where a rescue would be difficult, or if the next level below the worksite is within 50 feet.

The Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL incorporates a 50-foot lifeline, providing the worker exceptional mobility. The compact, lightweight design of the Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL, coupled with the built-in carrying handle makes it easy to carry, store and relocate the device. The anti-ratcheting brake system prevents the device from releasing in a post-fall rebound while connected to a flexible mount such as a horizontal lifeline. It also prevents "nuisance locking," in which the device activates during normal movement.

The DBI-SALA Ultra-Lok RSQ SRL supports a capacity of 310 lbs, and meets all applicable industry standards, including OSHA and ANSI Z359.1 and A10.32.
