Invensys Announces New APV Ws+ Self-priming Pump

Energy saving, noise reducing pump has flexible diameter impeller settings allowing wide range of flow and pressure levels - ideal capabilities for customers in beverage, dairy and brewery industries

LAKE MILLS, WISCONSIN, USA, Aug. 7, 2002 - APV, a leading provider of processing solutions and products for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, and a unit of Invensys plc, announced today the introduction in the North American market of the Ws+, high efficiency, self-priming pump. This new pump combines the functionality of APV's self priming ZMS pump with the hydraulic efficiency of the W+ centrifugal pump, to form a flexible, reduced power and lower noise emitting pump.

The new, innovative, energy efficient design of the Ws+ series results in a reduction of up to 49% in energy consumption compared to the previous ZMS self-priming pump. The new hydraulic design significantly reduces the noise level compared with traditional self-priming pumps that are based on liquid ring design.

Other design innovations include the ability to customize the diameter of the impeller which allows for wide flow ranges of up to 396 gpm and pressure levels up to 200 ft. Other self-priming pumps on the market have fixed diameter impellers which do not optimize performance.

The design of the impeller, with its open and adjustable diameter, decreases the likelihood of damage by small particles in the liquid. Other traditional self-priming pumps have several vanes in the impeller ring which reduce flow clearance past the inlet to as little as 0.2mm.

The APV Ws+ pump is designed for hygienic applications and easy cleaning. It has been approved to 3A sanitary, and European Hygienic Equipment Design Group (EHEDG) standards. Within the EHEDG certification, the Ws+ can be used for several applications where two pumps are normally required, such as pumping media and CIP cleaning.

The Ws+ pump comes standard with a single mechanical seal made of silicon carbide/carbon that is suitable for a wide range of products. A double mechanical flushed seal and silicon carbide/silicon carbide seal faces are also available as an option for more active pumps. Seals can easily be changed and all variations can be fitted to the same pump.

In addition to the many design improvements engineered into the new Ws+ pump it offers reduced spare parts maintenance requirements because it is part of the APV W+ family of pumps and many of its parts including the back plate, gaskets and seals are used throughout the family.
