Self-Calibrating Op-Amps suit portable instrumentation.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring rail-to-rail I/O, MAX9613/MAX9615 op-amps offer self-calibration feature that automatically compensates for errors generated over time or by temperature changes and which activates each time system is powered up. Units operate from 1.8-5.5 V supply and consume 220 µA of quiescent current. Specified over -40 to +125°C temperature range, they have offset voltage of 100 µV, input-bias current of 1.55 pA, and voltage noise density of 28 nV/rt-Hz, typical.

Low-Power Op Amps with Self-Calibration Minimize Drift in Portable Instrumentation and Medical Applications

Maxim's new rail-to-rail operational amplifiers include a unique self-calibration feature that automatically compensates for errors generated over time or by temperature changes.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9613/MAX9615, low-power, precision operational amplifiers with rail-to-rail I/O. These op amps have a unique self-calibration feature that allows offset correction or nulling at any time or temperature. Each time the system is powered up, self-calibration is activated, thereby minimizing system drift errors induced by temperature gradients. This capability saves designers the time and labor normally associated with manual system calibration, while ensuring that the system functions as specified. The MAX9613/MAX9615 are well suited for sensor interfaces in portable industrial and medical applications that demand precision.

Maxim's proprietary BiCMOS process technology and patent-pending design architectures enable these devices to achieve an excellent combination of size, precision performance, bandwidth, and supply current. The MAX9613/MAX9615 operate from a 1.8V to 5.5V supply and consume only 220microamps (typ) of quiescent current. This low-power performance helps maximize battery life and minimize heat dissipation, which is critical in portable industrial applications. Both devices offer low offset voltage (100 microvolts, max), low input-bias current (1.55pA, max), and low voltage-noise density (28nV/rt-Hz, typ). The MAX9613 has a shutdown mode for extended power savings. This op amp series also features excellent RF immunity, thus minimizing unwanted signal interference.

The MAX9613/MAX9615 are fully specified for operation over the -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius automotive temperature range. They are available in an ultra-small (2mm x 2.2mm), lead-free, 6-/8-pin SC70 package, respectively. Prices start at $0.65 (1000-up, FOB USA). Maxim also offers pin-compatible versions (MAX9614/MAX9616) without self-calibration.
