Powerful Reader Delivers Access Control and Intrusion Management in One
Torrance, CA, - AMAG Technology, a security management solution provider that offers converged access control, IP video and enterprise intrusion management, today announces its new Javelin family of readers. The Javelin readers can operate as standard readers with versions of Symmetry(TM) Security Management V6.x or as fully functional, intelligent alarm keypads when used with Symmetry Homeland V7 with the Symmetry Intrusion Management module and supported Symmetry M2150 multiNODE controllers.

The Javelin 884-KP reads NXP MIFARE® and MIFARE® DESFire smart cards, in addition to Personal Identity Verification (PIV), Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) and First Responder Authentication Card (FRAC) cards. The Javelin 880-KP reads 125kHz HID Proximity credentials. Other models will be released over time.
The Javelin LCD graphical display verifies card acceptance or rejection, and can prompt for a user's PIN to verify command functions. Access control and intrusion messaging such as PIN prompts, door information and intrusion area alarm status is displayed using configurable text, icons and user friendly graphical images. The keypad and reader are backlit for ease of use and provide the power saving option to reduce the lighting levels when the reader is not in use.
An onboard Wiegand Interface allows a separate external reader to be connected to support additional card technologies such as barcode, magnetic strip, HID iCLASS®, etc. This unique capability allows you to create a custom multi-technology portal by combining a legacy reader of your choice with the appropriate state-of-the-art Javelin model, thereby helping to smooth out the process of transitioning a population to a new card technology. This capability does not require an additional reader port on the panel, and works with both access control and intrusion functions.
When used with Symmetry Homeland V7 and the latest generation of M2150 hardware, the Javelin delivers access control and intrusion management functions through one easy-to-use terminal. Authorized users present their card at the reader to disarm the area behind the door and unlock the door. Access can be controlled based on intrusion status and authorized card holder permissions. The combined system provides simplified administration, enhanced security and eliminates the need for a separate intrusion detection system.
