Alcatel-Lucent Delivers Application Access Control and Intrusion Prevention with New Security Appliance

LAS VEGAS, May 22 -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today introduced a new security product family to address the growing need for enterprises to secure their networks based on user access control. The OmniAccess SafeGuard product family is Alcatel- Lucent's newest addition to the Alcatel-Lucent CrystalSec security framework.

The new products manage user access and restrict application use while on the network, characterize traffic patterns, identify intrusions based on pre- configured heuristics, and protect users and the network against known or unknown attacks. The OmniAccess SafeGuard addresses key IT requirements such as network admission control (NAC), guest access, identity based network access, malware control, and compliance with new regulations such as HIPAA, SoX, and PCI.

OmniAccess SafeGuard appliances address security challenges of business critical networks with an overlay solution requiring no modification to the existing infrastructure, all the while preserving LAN performance with speeds of up to 10Gbps. This type of network transformation minimizes overhead while providing the highest-level security, allowing an enterprise to use technology as a competitive weapon in its marketplace.

"Security is a universal concern and significant challenge to enterprises. Vendors that can deliver additional security without overhauling hardware, especially at the access layer, bring value and peace of mind," said Jeff Wilson, Infonetics principal analyst for security. "The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess SafeGuard adds security to the access layer without requiring additional standalone security hardware investment."

The new OmniAccess SafeGuard product line represents a turning point, allowing enterprises to implement user-based security at the network edge without compromising speed or security. Additionally, the new product line gives network managers an unprecedented view into usage patterns down to the user and application levels. And, this functionality is delivered with minimal disruption and modification of existing infrastructure.

"In today's 'Always on' world, Alcatel-Lucent recognizes that security doesn't stop at the office front door. Protecting critical information in our mobile world has become increasingly complex, and the OmniAccess SafeGuard allows IT departments to stay ahead of the daily security threats that attack their network," Tom Burns, President of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Solution activities.

The OmniAccess SafeGuard 1000 and 2400 are available immediately from Alcatel-Lucent resellers. Pricing starts at $18,495 U.S. list.

OmniAccess SafeGuard 1000/2400

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess SafeGuard (OAG) 1000 and 2400 appliances are deployed between the network edge and the aggregation/core layer, and managed by the OmniVista SafeGuard Manager, providing extensive management control including access policy configuration, user traffic visualization, device configuration and management. The OAG 1000 has eight Gigabit Ethernet ports with two additional operational ports; the OAG 2400 has 20 Gigabit Ethernet ports, with four additional operational ports for traffic mirroring and high availability synchronization.
