New Square D® Secondary Surge Arresters Protect Against Lightning and High Current Surges
PALATINE, Ill. - Nov. 19, 2002 - The new SQUARE D® SDSA secondary surge arresters include two models that meet the industry's highest reliability standards for protection against lightning and high current surges up to 40,000 amps.
Square D/Schneider Electric designed the model SDSA1175 for use on 120/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz electrical services. Two of the SDSA 1175 devices can be used to protect 208Y/120 Vac three-phase, four-wire devices. Ideal uses for the model SDSA3650 include applications where maximum phase-to-ground system voltage does not exceed 600 Vac and surge protection for irrigation pumps, oil pumps and motors operating below 600V.
Both the SDSA1175 model and SDSA3650 model feature a housing made of high-temperature thermoplastic to ensure reliable performance in both indoor and outdoor applications. The non-replaceable internal fuse links provide protection against varistor-damaging sustained overvoltages. A metal oxide varistor design creates faster response and lower clamping voltages than traditional gas tube arresters as well as a response time of less than 50 nanoseconds. An LED status indicator allows for easy visual indication of the device's operational status.
The SQUARE D SDSA secondary surge arresters are UL and cUL listed as secondary surge arresters to ANSI/IEEE C62.11-1987 standards for surge arresters.
