Seco Tools to Showcase Processes and Products for the Oil and Gas Industry at HOUSTEX 2011
Troy, Michigan- Seco Tools will be demonstrating a range of processes and products relevant to the oil and gas industry at HOUSTEX 2011. The company will exhibit its products in booth #1100 at the event, which takes place April 18 - 20 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
In its booth, Seco will be presenting information on its new single-pass threading process for producing various grades and types of steel coupling used for connecting pipe in the oil and gas industry. Rather than use the traditional push-threading method that utilizes a right-hand tool, Seco devised a left-hand tooling system that directs cutting forces into the bed of the turning center.
The Seco one-pass threading process also uses a pull method, eliminating the issue of packing chips into the back of a hole. Additionally, use of high-pressure coolant serves to reduce chip size and increase chip control, another vital area for manufacturers of oil and gas components. For optimum results, Seco's multi-tooth, chaser-style threading inserts are applied to the application. As a result of the new tooling system and process, threads can be machined in a single pass, as opposed to the three to five passes required in the past. In addition to productivity gains, part quality is also significantly improved.
Seco will also be highlighting the benefits of its Anti-Twist(TM) insert locking system. Anti-Twist features a carbide pin in the back of the insert pocket that resists wear and prevents insert movement, even during demanding machining operations. For added rigidity, Seco combines the technology with a D-style clamp that pulls the insert down and into the pocket.
The CP200 PVD coated grade will also be featured in Seco's booth. Ideal for high cutting speeds, CP200 inserts provide excellent performance when cutting hardened and stainless steels, cast iron and heat resistant alloys.
