Seco® to Bring Metalworking Innovation and Expertise to CMTS 2013

TROY, Mich. – At the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show (CMTS), Seco Tools will spotlight new metalworking innovations as well as enhancements to existing products in booth 4750. The company's applications experts will also be available to provide attendees with valuable insight as to how they can boost their productivity and profitability using the latest cutting tool technologies and techniques.

Products on display will include the X4 tangential tool, a new cost-efficient concept for grooving and parting-off small, highly complex parts; the EPB® 5672, a new collet chuck system with a maximum radial run-out of three microns; and the popular Turbo 10 series of square shoulder mills, which now includes more inserts with new geometries and radii as well as helical cutters for increased machining flexibility in tough materials.

X4 Tangential Tool

The X4, with its cost-efficient four-edged insert design, minimizes material consumption when parting-off components and accurately performs grooving operations. When combined with its rigid clamping system, the insert provides extreme precision, productivity and surface quality.

CP500 and CP600 insert grade selections as well as neutral, right-hand and left-hand angled cutting-edge options make the X4 highly wear resistant and versatile. The insert is also available with Seco's MC chipbreaking geometry.

The X4 provides cutting widths from 0.79 mm to 2.3 mm and depths between 2.6 mm and 6.5 mm. Furthermore, it comes in 16 mm, 19 mm and 25 mm shank sizes and couples to Seco-Capto™ C4, C5 and C6 toolholders, which feature Jetstream Tooling® Duo technology for improved chip flow.

EPB 5672 Collet Chuck System

Due to its completely cylindrical shape, the EPB 5672 collet chuck system is suitable for high-speed machining applications across a broad range of industries that require well balanced tool assemblies. The high-precision system has a maximum radial run-out of only three microns and offers up to three times the transmittable torque of previous collet chuck models, allowing for higher running parameters and improved process security. The system also distributes its clamping force over the full length of the collet to maximize rigidity.

The EPB 5672 features a new collet nut design with two cylindrical guiding surfaces on both sides of the thread, which centers the tool and colletto the centerline of the tool holder. A special thread on the nut helps create a strong, uniform gripping force on the collet and the tool shank. In fact, milling tests show the EPB 5672 increases tool life by more than 30 percent when compared with conventional collet chucks.

The EPB 5672 is currently available in both conventional and sealed collet in sizes 16R, 16, 25 and 32. Moreover, the sealed collets allow coolant to flow through the tool without requiring an extra nut for the collet.

Turbo 10 Square Shoulder Mills

The enhanced Turbo 10 series of square shoulder milling cutters now includes more inserts with new geometries and radii as well as helical cutters for increased machining flexibility in tough materials.

The insert range expansion includes both direct pressed and ground insert alternatives with corner radii ranging from 0.4 mm to 3.1 mm. The new geometries for the ground insert range provide increased performance in materials with unique challenges, including aluminum, stainless steels and titanium alloys. The new helical cutters are ideal for helical shoulder milling applications that require process stability, flexibility and high precision. The cutters are available in diameters ranging from 20 mm to 54 mm and include Weldon, Seco Weldon, Combimaster heads, Seco-Capto and Arbor mounting options.

All Turbo 10 cutters include precision milled pocket seats that improve run-out, stability and tool life by providing optimal contact between the tool body and insert. Integrated through-coolant channels support high productivity and promote excellent chip evacuation. Because of their high levels of flexibility, Turbo 10 cutters work in slotting, shouldering, ramping, facing, pocketing, plunging and turn milling applications.
