Molex Launches MX150 Sealed Connector System

New Pre-assembled Design Offers Ease-of-Use and Affordability

LISLE, Ill. - March 31, 2004 - The MX150(TM) Sealed Connector System from Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA) is a submersible, environmentally sealed interconnection system designed to withstand harsh conditions. The MX150 Sealed Connector System is shipped in one piece and includes mat and interfacial seals, as well as housing and terminal position assurance (TPA). This pre-assembled design is easy to use and lowers applied costs because it does not require assembly of components and eliminates the need to purchase or handle wire seals. Simply insert a crimped terminal lead and seat the TPA into its final lock position.

The MX150 Sealed Connector System provides a unique combination of superior electrical performance and low insertion force. It was designed to meet the new, aggressive USCAR-20 Filed Correlated Life Testing (FCLT) requirements, which are aligned to 150,000 miles or 15-years of service life. The product is also compliant with UL, USCAR-2, Rev 3 and IEC IP67 performance standards for sealed connectors. By being compliant with these standards, the MX150 Sealed Connector System is ideal for automotive, marine, off-road construction and agricultural equipment, as well as truck, bus and RV applications.

The MX150 Sealed Connector System is also a field repairable solution that has plug and receptacle housings with polarization features to prevent accidental mismating. Products are available in a wide variety of circuit sizes and wire ranges. Based on the 1.50mm blade-type terminal system, the MX150 version is designed around a 3.5mm (.138) pitch, while the MX150L version was designed with a 5.84mm (.230") pitch. The MX150L version accommodates a wide range of insulation styles from SAE to UL type wires, while the MX150 version is designed for smaller SAE style wire and UL thin wall equivalents.

"Prior to the MX150 Sealed Connector System, sealed connectors used in these types of applications required additional assembly by the customer and, in some cases, were permanent connections that needed complete replacement if a connection failed, all of which cost time and money," said Kevin McGonigle, product manager, Molex Incorporated, Industrial Division. "The MX150 Sealed Connector System not only meets the market need for a sealed, ruggedized interconnect, it offers a pre-assembled design that is also a field repairable solution that eliminates assembly and down time, as well as repair costs."

Additional features of the MX150 Sealed Connector System include:

· Integral Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) assures that the crimped terminal leads are properly locked into place

· Integral locking latch with a secondary Connector Position Assurance (CPA) option assures that connector system is properly latched

· Support for a wide range of UL (22-14 AWG) and SAE 22-14 AWG wire sizes for both low-level signal and power applications up to 18.0A

The MX150 Sealed Connector System offers flexibility and a high degree of performance with lower applied cost. Typical lead-time is four to six weeks. For additional information, visit www.molex.com/ind/mx150.html.
