Seagate Breaks Out of the Box at CES
Storage Leader Announces Consumer Branded Solutions that Deliver Your Content and Desktop Environment Anywhere, Anytime, Plus a New Program to Support HDD Integration to CE Devices; and Shipment of Single Platter 60GB 1.8-Inch Hard Drive
(#30659), Jan. 7 // -- Seagate (NYSE:STX) dramatically expands the role storage plays in today's digital lifestyle at the 2007 International CES show this week with the introduction of its new FreeAgent data movers, a groundbreaking family of solutions that give consumers and professionals anytime, anywhere access not only to their digital content, but also their Internet favorites, desktop settings, email and more. The company further underscored its leadership by shipping the industry's first single platter 60GB 1.8-inch hard drive, introducing a new program to facilitate hard drive integration into CE market applications and demonstrating a wide range of storage solutions that help deliver content to home, mobile, desktop and automotive devices.

Seagate's announcements at CES include:
o FreeAgent Pro data movers (320GB, 500GB, 750GB) -- include software to automatically synchronize content anytime, anywhere and access to Seagate Internet Drive, an online service that provides a "24/7 ATM" to post, access and share files from anywhere using the Web; FreeAgent Go (80GB, 120GB, 160GB) data movers plug into any computer's USB 2.0 port for mobile access to your computing environment -- including Web favorites, passwords and settings, IM, email, contacts and digital files; FreeAgent Go Small (12GB) provides the same software features as FreeAgent Go data movers, but in an ultra-compact size; and FreeAgent Desktop data movers (250GB, 320GB, 500GB) providing simple add- on storage for people to gather and access their content in one place.
o Seagate's Lyrion Hard Drive Shipping -- Seagate's first 1.8-inch hard drive designed for handheld audio and video devices has begun shipping. Seagate's Lyrion (formerly known as the ST18) is the industry's first single platter 60GB 1.8-inch hard drive enabled by perpendicular recording technology and is only 5-mm thick. With a single platter 60GB hard drive, portable devices will be able to carry up to 80 movies, up to 200 hours of music videos, up to 20 hours of standard definition video or up to 12 hours of high- definition video. Lyrion will also be available in 30GB configuration.
o Seagate Storage Management Module (SMM) -- a software solution that contains drivers, utilities and tools to provide support for a wide variety of chipsets, eliminating technical obstacles associated with integrating hard drives into consumer electronic devices. Seagate is working with Texas Instruments, Marvell, STMicroelectronics and other leading chipset manufacturers to bring this technology to leading markets, including mobile phones, personal media players, IPTV set-top boxes, automotive devices and others.
Demonstrations Emphasize Storage Diversity
A wide variety of consumer electronics equipment that employ Seagate hard drives will be on display at CES, including a 50" LG LCD DVR-TV, Digital Video Recorders with USB connections to external hard drives and live feed from Cox Cable, an Experinet digital media center, and the Xbox 360 with Xbox Live video downloads. The Scion, Seagate's hard drive enabled car, will also be on display outside the LVCC South Hall, as part of the company's Active Storage Tour. The automobile features 140 Gigabytes of storage for navigation, digital music libraries, video and photo libraries, satellite radio transmission and recording, office applications and web browsing. It also features an Xbox 360 with a high-definition LCD monitor that is wired for mobile Xbox Live gaming and downloads wherever the car may travel. Seagate will also demonstrate a number of mobile applications integrating the Seagate ST1.3 hard drive, including a Kenwood MP3 player, Humax PMP, and ECS DTV.
