Apcon Announces New Ultra320 2X1 Electronic SCSI Crosspoint Switch

- APCON Among Early Adopters of Ultra 320 Technology -

Portland, Ore. - December 10, 2002 - APCON, Inc., a leading provider of network solutions and intelligent physical layer switches for Fibre Channel, Ethernet and SONET, today announced its new Ultra320 2x1 Electronic SCSI Crosspoint Switch. With this introduction, APCON joins the ranks of early adopters blazing a trail for the new Ultra320 technology, which debuted early this year in products from such leading companies as LSI Logic, IBM, and Adaptec.

Ultra320 is the latest SCSI generation, providing the highest SCSI bandwidth ever for the most demanding server and workstation applications. It doubles SCSI's peak performance from 160 MByte/sec to 320 MByte/sec and includes innovations that increase data protection and optimize performance. APCON's Ultra320 2x1 SCSI Switch enables network and system engineers to effectively attach and switch the latest Ultra320 disk drives, servers, storage devices and other high-speed peripherals. In addition, the Switch, when used with APCON's PowerSwitch software, provides a high-availability fail-over solution at Ultra320 data rates.

"Companies running Ultra320 need the ability to move their data around at this increased speed. There is a variety of Ultra320-supporting devices on the market today; however, a major issue for our customers is sharing these expensive SCSI peripherals at Ultra320 data rates," said Richard Rauch, APCON's CEO and founder. "Our leading-edge switching solution enables our strategic customers to confidently transfer data, share devices and configure tape fail-over systems, without slowing the 320 MByte/sec data rate."

With the Ultra320 2x1 SCSI Switch, three independent SCSI buses can be selected and electronically connected through automated or software controlled switching. Device independent, the Switch does not occupy a SCSI bus ID. It features single-ended/low voltage differential SCSI termination; a high voltage differential SCSI version is also available.

APCON's Ultra320 2x1 SCSI Switch provides one-button control, an Ethernet LAN interface and a serial port connection with automatic internal termination. APCON Control Software, included with the switch, allows system administrators to remotely operate and control the SCSI port configuration, termination, and report SCSI bus activity. Backwards compatible, the switch supports Ultra160 (Ultra3) and existing SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 devices.

The APCON Ultra320 2x1 Electronic SCSI Crosspoint Switch now shipping and is priced at $1,295 (USD).
