Original Press Release:

SixPac(TM) Series High Power SCR Converters

Applied Power Systems, Inc., (APS) is pleased to announce the new SixPac(TM) series of high power SCR AC controllers and DC converters. This series of rugged, compact power stages feature a great deal of flexibility and is designed for long life in heavy-duty industrial applications. The SixPac(TM) includes three dual isolated SCR modules that can be configured as either a three-phase AC controller or a regulated DC converter. Applications include solid-state motor starters, soft-starts/soft-stops, variable speed drives, regulated power supplies, and any other application that needs a compact and rugged source of power.

The isolated SCR modules are mounted on a high efficiency heatsink and are equipped with input fuses, snubbers, Hall effect current sensor, output bus, cooling fan and a capacitor filter bank (for regulated DC output). The compact design measures only 18" wide by 10" long by 11" high.

The SixPac(TM) is available for input voltages from 10V AC to 700V AC (40Hz to 80Hz) and output currents from 50A DC to over 1,000A DC or from 100A AC rms to 600A AC rms per phase (as much as 750kW that can be easily held in two hands). All units come with our industry proven AP-1950 SCR gate drive board and an R-C snubber board.

The SixPac(TM) design includes the following features:
o Automatic frequency tracking of input mains from 30Hz to 90Hz with no phase delay errors!
o Automatically corrects for phase rotation
o Over temperature detection with scaled analog feedback
o Phase references are filtered to reduce harmonic content above the fundamental
o On-board feedback Control - eliminates the need for external controller
o Hall effect current sensor for current feedback
o Settable voltage and current limits, on board
o Diagnostic LED indicators for human interface
o All feedback loops are compensated and stable across the full operating range
o Soft-Start and Soft Stop features included

The SixPac(TM) is designed and built to be a robust piece of electronic gear designed to withstand the severe mechanical and environmental conditions of industrial applications. It is mounted on a base of 12-gauge cold rolled steel. The AP1950 SCR gate drive board is conformal coated for moisture protection.

Our applications engineers are available to answer your questions and can provide you with a simulation printout of SixPac(TM) performance with your specific load and ambient conditions. We can also suggest optimum inductor sizing by simulation for your application.
