Survivair Announces Upgrade to Puma® Hood

Enhanced Material Design Offers New Color, Improved Chemical Resistance

Smithfield, RI -- Survivair, A Bacou-Dalloz Company, has enhanced the design and material construction of its popular Puma® Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) hood to provide a better fit with improved chemical compatibility.

The Puma is the first NIOSH-certified, OSHA-compliant, hooded pressure demand SCBA designed to fit over beards and glasses. The hood provides an airtight neck seal and can be used any place a conventional mask can be used. Puma hoods are also frequently used by individuals with very large or very small faces who have difficulty fitting a regular face mask.

Changes to the design and construction include a new, 20-mil PVC lens for better clarity and chemical resistance, and the use of blue, Responder® material made by DuPont. Responder has been used in hazardous material response suits for many years and is familiar to many people in the safety industry. Offering improved chemical compatibility, the material is also stiffer, to provide a better fit.

Survivair's line of Puma and Cougar SCBAs are industry standards, designed to meet the needs of users who do not require the performance of an NFPA compliant unit. Designed for use in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH), but without costly firefighting features, Puma and Cougar SCBAs offer a number of features to enhance the safety and comfort of the user, including a lightweight backpack, low-profile second stage regulator for better vision, First-Breath-On, and easy cylinder replacement.
